Pride Of The Country 2009 Prize awarded on 14 April in Kyiv

Yesterday, on Wednesday, 14 April 2010, the Victor Pinchuk Foundation, in partnership with Novy Channel and Fakty newspaper held the seventh annual award ceremony honouring the laureates of the national Prize “Pride Of The Country” and presented to the Ukrainian nation its new heroes. A recorded TV version of the event will be broadcasted on 24 April at 22:10 on Novy Channel.

During the year, the Public Board of the Prize have been selecting the laureates among people who in manifested critical situations the best human qualities and proved with their deeds and lives that our country can be proud of them. The winners of the “Pride Of The Country 2009” are heroes from all over Ukraine awarded in such nominations as: Personal Achievement (Vitalii Svirnenko), Sensation of the Year (Illia Yemets), Family Story (Mykhailo Zhar), Child Courage (Nastia Poleva), Outstanding Examples of Bravery (Vitalii Vorobei), Sense of Duty (Aurel Rusnak, Oleksandr Druzhyna, Antonina Nadych), Strength of Spirit (Yevhen Synytsia and Yevhen Dihtiarenko), Rare Talent (Yaroslav Bykh), Neighbour of the Year (Hannah Voitsihovska ), Doctor of the Year (Ivan Kotsiuba, Ivan Nechyporenko), All Together (fundraising action by the Ukrainians to acquire the first ever in Ukraine gamma knife for the Kyiv Institute of Neurosurgery).

This year’s surprise became the Special Event nomination awarded to the national Paralympics team which brought home 19 medals from the 2010 Winter Paralympic Games in Vancouver (Canada).
