Board of the Yalta European Strategy (YES) to discuss EU-Ukraine Association Negotiations in Warsaw

On November 10, 2011, during its visit to Warsaw, the Board of the Yalta European Strategy (YES) will discuss prospects of Ukraine’s integration with the European Union and the potential impact of the Polish EU Presidency on
the negotiations on the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement. 

YES Board members including Aleksander Kwasniewski, President of Poland (1995-2005), Chairman of the Board of YES; Mario David, member of the European Parliament, Vice President of the European People's Party; Victor Pinchuk, founder and member of the Board of YES; Marek Siwiec, member of the European Parliament, member of the Board of YES, will hold a meeting with Prime Minister of Poland Donald Tusk and Minister of Finance of Poland Jan Vincent-Rostowski.

The round table discussion entitled “Polish EU Presidency and EU-Ukraine Association Negotiations. Attainments, challenges and the way forward” will bring together around 25 participants including YES Board members, representatives of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Poland, members of the Polish parliament and the Ukrainian delegation. Among them: Pavlo Klimkin, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine; Cyryl Kozaczewski, Director for the Department of Common Foreign and Security Policy and Artur Michalski, Director of the Eastern Department of Polish MFA; Leonid Kozhara, MP, Deputy Head of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Parliament of Ukraine; Valeriy Chalyi, Deputy Chairman, Razumkov Centre.

The YES visit will also encompass a working meeting with Timothy Garton Ash, Professor of European Studies, University of Oxford who has written about the transformation of the former Eastern Bloc states.

Yalta European Strategy (YES) – is an international independent network promoting the development of a just, democratic and prosperous Ukraine and supporting reforms necessary for Ukraine’s eventual EU accession. YES serves as a platform where decision-makers discuss global challenges, present new approaches and shape strategies for the region. Since 2004, the Yalta Annual Meetings of YES have brought together leading decision-makers including Tony Blair, William J. Clinton, Stefan Füle, Bronislaw Komorowski, Aleksei Kudrin, Shimon Peres, Gerhard Schröder, Javier Solana, Dominique Strauss-Kahn, James Wolfensohn, and Joschka Fischer.

YES is governed by a distinguished international board: Mario David, Stephane Fouks, Aleksander Kwasniewski (Chairman), Victor Pinchuk, Alexander Rahr, Jean-Pierre Saltiel, Javier Solana and Marek Siwiec.
