Alternative energies and aerospace engineering included in the priority fields of the WorldWideStudies scholarship program

The Victor Pinchuk Foundation has extended the list of specialties for its WorldWideStudies scholarship program aimed at fostering a new generation of Ukrainian professional elite. For the past two years Ukrainian students and young specialists have been receiving grants from the Foundation to pursue a Master’s Degree at one of 200 world’s best universities. New strategic areas to be supported by the Foundation include alternative energies and aerospace engineering.

Victor Pinchuk:“Providing first rate education is fundamental for creating a first rate future. This guides the foundation when we choose the focal points of our education projects. Today we add two directions for the WorldWideStudies program - alternative energies and aerospace engineering.

The future lies with science-driven and energy saving technologies. And for our country, this not a prognosis but the reality of today. One of Ukraine’s main resources is our unique aerospace industry. And a crucial problem for Ukraine is its high energy consumption. By saving this resource and coping with that problem Ukraine stands a good chance to be successful in the world of tomorrow. I believe that our grantees will help Ukraine use this chance.”

Other areas covered by the WorldWideStudies program include law, public administration, agriculture, environment and ecology. The Foundation may, in exceptional cases, also consider applications from other fields of study.

Submission of applications and online registration is open on the website www.worldwidestudies.org
till May 15, 2012.

Over the past two years since this program was launched, 36 young people have been awarded grants. Currently 10 winners have returned to Ukraine and started working in their respective areas; 26 grant winners continue their studies at universities around the world: USA, Great Britain, Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, France, Germany and Malta.

Overall, since launch of the project, the Victor Pinchuk Foundation has allocated UAH 7 470 235.00 for the WWS program.
