Lesia Khomenko, a chairwoman of the selection committee: “During the first online stage, we selected around 100 applications to the longlist. We worked with them during the whole day at our offline meeting, revisiting each and every one of them several times. We discussed the criteria against which we evaluated the applications and treated these criteria just as critically as the submissions for the contest. Working on this year's selection committee was an extraordinary experience for me because to get a cool shortlist, you have to build as much trust and empathy within the working group as possible, allow yourself to be unafraid to doubt and, in the end, turn into a five-headed organism. Colleagues wrote down each other's catch phrases that emerged as new artistic terms when they were building their cases. While reviewing the submissions, we discovered many new artists and self-organised initiatives, which I will now follow closely.”
Four nominees had been selected for the short list of the previous editions of the Prize, namely: Mykhailo Alekseenko, Katya Вuchatska, Nikolay Karabinovych, a group Daniil Revkovskiy and Andriy Rachinskiy.
Shortlisted artists will be commissioned to create the new works on view in exhibitions at the PinchukArtCentre in Kyiv in Autumn 2022. The show of the PinchukArtCentre Prize 2022 will be curated by Ksenia Malykh, Head of the Research Platform of the PinchukArtCentre, Oleksandra Pogrebnyak and Daria Shevtsova, junior curators of the PinchukArtCentre.
The winners of the Prize will be announced at the award ceremony in December, 2022. A distinguished international jury will award the main prize of UAH 250 000 and two special prizes of UAH 60 000 each. In addition, the winners will have an internship in studios of the world’s leading artists. A public choice winner will be determined by votes of the visitors attending the exhibition of the shortlisted artists and will be awarded UAH 25 000.
The winner of the Main Prize will be automatically included in the shortlist of the Future Generation Art Prize 2023 – a biannual global contemporary art prize to discover, recognize and give long-term support to a future generation of artists all over the world.
