The PinchukArtCentre Presents the Exhibition of 21 Shortlisted Artists for the Future Generation Art Prize 2012

Damien Hirst’s exhibition coinciding with the second edition of the Future Generation Art Prize will also be presented at the PinchukArtCentre

The PinchukArtCentre is exhibiting 21 shortlisted artists for the second edition of the Future Generation Art Prize, the first global art prize for artists up to 35, founded by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation in December 2009. The exhibition focuses on the presentation of newly produced works giving a chance for nominated artists to show off their most advanced position. It offers a remarkable view on the new tendencies and artistic practices of the next generation of artists.

The exhibition will be open from November 3, 2012 till January 6, 2013 in the PinchukArtCentre (Kyiv, Ukraine). The Main Prize Winner receiving $100,000, will be announced at the Award Ceremony on December 7, 2012 by an international distinguished jury in Kyiv, Ukraine.

At the same time the PinchukArtCentre will present a solo exhibition by Damien Hirst, one of the Mentor Artists of the Future Generation Art Prize. For this show embedded into the context of the second edition of the Future Generation Art Prize, Damien Hirst will present a series of dynamic new paintings he has been working on since summer of 2010.

The 20 shortlisted artists represent 16 different countries. They have been selected from more than 4,000 applications received from 134 countries spread across all continents. The artists were nominated by 7 members of the Selection Committee, competent and global art-professionals who were suggested by the members of the Jury.

The 21st nominee for the Future Generation Art Prize is Mykyta Kadan, the winner of the PinchukArtCentre Prize 2011, the first national contemporary art prize awarded to young Ukrainian artists under 35.

The shortlist of theFuture Generation Art Prize 2012includes: Jonathas de Andrade, 30 (Brazil), Meris Angioletti, 34 (Italy), Marwa Arsanios, 33 (Lebanon), Micol Assael, 33 (Italy), Abigail DeVille, 30 (United States),Aurelien Froment, 35 (France), Mykyta Kadan,29 (Ukraine), Meiro Koizumi, 35 (Japan), Andre Komatsu, 33 (Brazil), Eva Kotatkova, 29 (Czech Republic),Tala Madani, 30 (Iran), Basim Magdy, 34 (Egypt), Ahmet Ogut, 30 (Turkey),Amalia Pica, 33 (Argentina), Agnieszka Polska, 27 (Poland), Emily Roysdon, 34 (United States), Rayyane Tabet, 28 (Lebanon), Yan Xing, 26 (China),Lynette Yiadom-Boakye, 34 (United Kingdom), and two groups: Joao Maria Gusmao + Pedro Paiva, 33, 34 (Portugal), and R.E.P. (Ukraine).

The International Jury of the Future Generation Art Prize 2012 includes Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev (Germany), Agnaldo Farias (Brasil), Massimiliano Gioni (USA), Carol Yinghua Lu (China), Hans Ulrich Obrist (United Kingdom),Eckhard Schneider (Ukraine), Nancy Spector (USA).

Jurors will select and award the winner of the Main Prize who will receive a generous prize ($60,000 in cash and $40,000 toward production of new work) at the Award Ceremony on December 7, 2012 in Kyiv (Ukraine).

An additional $20,000 from the Victor Pinchuk Foundation will be allotted to fund artist-in-residency programs for up to five other special prize winners.

Images of works by all shortlisted artists will be posted on the website, and members of the public will be invited to vote online for the People’s Choice Prize. This prize will be awarded at the end of the exhibition. It is not a cash award and serves as a symbol of audience recognition.
