PinchukArtCentre presented Transfer: five solo exhibitions of young Polish artists

From August 28 till September 30, 2012, the PinchukArtCentre in collaboration with the Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle (Warsaw, Poland) had been presenting Transfer, an exchange programme to promote and support new generation of Ukrainian artists abroad and to offer a dynamic view on young Polish art in Ukraine.

During one month the PinchukArtCentre presented five solo exhibitions by young Polish artists featuring new productions and most recent works. Each show lasted one week. The artists on the show included: Monika Zawadzki, Agnieszka Polska, Konrad Smoleński, Nicolas Grospierre, and Michał Budny.

Transfer has offered the first experience in international curatorial practice to the junior curators of the PinchukArtCentre’s Curatorial Platform. Lizaveta German, Tatiana Kochubinska, and Maria Lanko organized and co-curated the exhibitions together with Björn Geldhof, Artistic manager of the PinchukArtCentre.

Björn Geldhof, Artistic manager of the PinchukArtCentre: “With Transfer the PinchukArtCentre invested in young generation by bringing Ukrainian artists abroad but equally showing of Polish artists in Ukraine. Bringing together a new generation of artists with new generation of curators gave an opportunity to make challenging exhibitions.”

The shows at the PinchukArtCentre were combined with an intense series of lectures (by Alevtina Kakhidze, Ewa Gorzadek, Agnieszka Pindera, Daniel Muzyczuk, Anna Łazar, and Björn Geldhof) and artist talks that fuelled an exchange between the Polish art scene and the Ukrainian public. The programme was realised with support of the Polish Institute in Kyiv.

Within the framework of the Transfer project presented at the Centre for Contemporary Art Ujazdowski Castle the following Ukrainian artists, nominees for the PinchukArtCentre Prize in 2009 and 2011, have presented their two-week individual exhibitions at the CCA this summer: Nikita Kadan, Zhanna Kadyrova, Volodymyr Kuznetsov, Lada Nakonechna and Mykola Ridnyi. Curator of the project is Marianna Dobkowska.

Earlier five Ukrainian speakers were invited to Warsaw to present Ukraine’s cultural context and offer a critical discourse on Ukrainian contemporary art scene. Kateryna Botanova, Vasyl Cherepanyn, Alevtina Kakhidze, Maria Lanko and Anna Łazar have visited Warsaw for the accompanying cycle of lectures.
