Icon of international pop-art, Damien Hirst has arrived in Kyiv

Today, on October 5, Damien Hirst, the most controversial contemporary artist from the UK has arrived in Kyiv. Having made a revolution within British sculpture art, he established his status of an international celebrity as that of Andy Warhol. The artist arrived in Ukraine at the invitation of Victor Pinchuk to participate in the opening ceremony of REFLECTION exhibition in PinchukArtCentre.

At the exhibition, Ukrainian viewers will have a chance to look at 6 works by Damien Hirst that will be displayed in Ukraine for the first time: "Resurrection", "Jesus and the Disciples", "Incomplete Truth", "St Bartholomew, Exquisite Pain", "Generation follows the Plough" and "Ariel".

Damien Hirst arrived in Ukraine together with Jay Joplin, the owner of White Cube gallery in London.

Damien Hirst was born June 7, 1965 in Bristol, UK. He lives in London and north Devon, UK. He has participated in numerous group exhibitions including Into Me / Out of Me, P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center, New York (2006), In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida, Tate Britain, the 50th Venice Biennale (2003) and Century City, Tate Modern (2001). Solo exhibitions include Astrup Fearnley Museet fur Moderne Kunst, Oslo (2005), Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (2005) and Archaeological Museum, Naples (2004). He received the DAAD fellowship in Berlin in 1994 and the Turner Prize in 1995.

PinchukArtCentre (Kyiv, Ukraine)is one of the largest centres for contemporary art in Eastern Europe. Its key activities include: arranging exhibitions, seminars, master-classes, Providing support to cultural projects, etc. Since it was opened in September 2006, it hosted four large exhibitions: "First acquisitions", "GENERATIONS.UsA", "Vik Muniz: Expertise ", "Instinctive Eye: selected photographs from the collection of Sir Elton John". More than 145,000 thousand people have visited PinchukArtCentre.

PinchukArtCentre is to celebrate its second year by opening REFLECTION exhibition, which will showcase the newest acquisitions from PinchukArtCentre's collection. Starting from October 6 till December 30, 2007 visitors of the art-centre will have a chance to look at paintings, sculpture artwork, installations, photos and video installations created by the best artists of XXI century from Great Britain, Germany, Mexico, Poland, USA, Ukraine and Japan among which: Antony Gormley, Andreas Gursky, Damien Hirst, Christian Marclay, Sarah Morris, Marc Quinn, Sam Taylor-Wood, Piotr Uklanski, Gabriel Orozco, Jeff Koons, Takashi Murakami, Peter Doig, Richard Phillips, Vasyl Tsagolov, Il, Serhiy Bratkov, Arsen Savadov, lya Chichkan & "Blue Noses".
