Ukrainian pavilion - among the 5 most anticipated events on the 52nd Venice Biennale

British experts as quoted by Daily Telegraph said that Britain, France, USA, Ukraine and Central Asia Pavilions at the 52nd Venice Biennale, a contemporary art exhibition, are among the most anticipated of the entire exhibition.

According to the article, Ukraine may not be known for its art; however, its pavilion should be one of the strongest in the Biennale. This year's show is directed by Peter Doroshenko, President of PinchukArtCentre, who has brought together artists from Ukraine, Great Britain, USA, featuring the show titled "A Poem About Inland Sea". The pavilion will showcase the work produced by Serhiy Bratkov, Alexander Hnilitsky/Lesia Zaiats, Boris Mikhailov, Juergen Teller, Mark Titchner, Sam Taylor-Wood, and Dzine.

One of the artists from Ukrainian pavilion, Mark Titchner, who was nominated for last year's Turner Prize, has come up with a banner bearing the slogan "We Are Ukrainians, What Else Matters?", as well as a sculpture of a trident - Ukraine's national symbol - to which he has added a pair of glasses. Sam Taylor-Wood, best known for her 2002 video portrait of David Beckham sleeping, will show two new films: one of a Ukrainian ballet dancer suspended in mid-air, the other of a decomposing swan. Jurgen Teller has come up with photographs made at the end of April in Kyiv, Troyeshchina District. The opening ceremony of the Ukrainian pavilion at the Biennale is to be held on June 7, 2007.
