Signing the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement is an opportunity to implement systemic reforms in Ukraine – Vitali Klitschko

Signing the planned Association Agreement with the European Union this November, in Vilnius, is a chance to implement systemic reforms. Vitali Klitschko, MP of Ukraine, Chairman of the “UDAR” Party, and leader of the namesake parliamentary faction, stated at the 10th Annual Meeting of the Yalta European Strategy.

“We (the opposition) will do our best to facilitate signing of the Association Agreement and later on we will monitor its implementation”, Vitali Klitschko said. We will focus our efforts on watching over compliance to EU standards. Because we, the Ukrainians, are Europeans. And Ukraine is Europe. And we, the Ukrainians will prove that.”

Tigipko names the three biggest issues for Ukraine

Ukraine should be more democratic, improve the standards of market economy and implement a more effective social policy, said MP Serhiy Tigipko, Party of Regions faction, at the YES 10th Annual Meeting “Changing Ukraine in a Changing World: Factors of Success” on Saturday, at the Livadia Palace in Yalta.

"The three issues that we need to address are as follows.  Our number one problem – is that we should be continuously concerned about improving democracy in the country. Democracy creates an opportunity to make the public administration in Ukraine efficient and fair”, said Tigipko.

“Our second big issue, is that we need to striveto improve the standards of our market economy. A strong market economy will provide the best chance of work for our gifted young people”, continued the MP.

The third big issue for us, is the implementation of a more effecient social policy. We spend a lot of money on our social policy, and yet, the way I see it, our social policy is very unfair. We are constantly subsidizing wealthy people, which creates a feeling  of injustice in the country”, he finished.

Signing the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement is only the beginning of the journey - Arseniy Yatsenyuk

The Vilnius Summit in November, at which Ukraine and the European Union may sign their Association Agreement is only the beginning of the journey.  After that  the country will need to prove its capacity to fulfill its new obligations, and the government will need to contain results-oriented people, stated Member of Parliament of Ukraine, Arseniy Yatsenyuk  (“Batkivshchyna” faction).

“We foresee very serious and difficult negotiations, but after the Agreement is signed we will need to continue to work hard. We need appropriate, accountable and clever governance. It is very important to have people in government who are capable of generating results and transforming our country”, said Yatsenyuk at the 10th Annual Meeting of YES “Changing Ukraine in a Changing World: Factors of Success” on Saturday, in the Livadia Palace, Yalta.

According to the MP, Ukraine is ready to beging a new chapter in its relations with Russia – free of being terrorized, free of threats, with a normal import/export relationship, but only providing the three “Nos” are complied with: “No – to the Customs Union, No – to the Russian language being the national language (ofn Ukraine), and No – to the formation of military blocs with Russia”.
