On January 29, 2009, during the World Economic Forum, the Victor Pinchuk Foundation hosted the 2nd Davos Philanthropic Roundtable entitled "From Philanthrocapitalism to Philanthrocrisis".

The key speakers at the event were dignitaries who have significantly contributed to the development of a new model of philanthropy: former Prime-Minister of Great Britain Tony Blair; 42nd President of the United States Bill Clinton;Founder of theMicrosoft Corporation Bill Gates; Sir  Richard  Branson, businessman and philanthropist; Muhammad  Yunus, Laureate of 2006 Nobel Peace Prize; Jet Li, famous actor and founder of a charity fund, and Victor Pinchuk –  organizer of the Roundtable, public leader and businessman. Matthew Bishop, Chief Business Editor of The Economist and co-author of the book "Philanthrocapitalism: How the Rich Can Save the World" acted as moderator of the discussion.

The main topic of the Roundtable was the effects of the global financial crisis on the philanthropic activity and prospects for philanthropy development. The participants held discussions as to what extend the current situation in financial and economic sectors would reflect on the scale of the charity foundations’ activity, whether we should expect a significant reduction of charity contributions globally and what social after-effects could be expected as a result of such reduction. The Roundtable debate kept its focus on the philanthropy's ability to remain one of the key factors of social progress, filling main social needs and requirements of people, and also on the new potential philanthropic models that might emerge after the economy has recovered.

More than 400 participants attended the Roundtable; among them were the World Economic Forum participants, representatives of business, philanthropic and non-profit organizations, and media.
