On Thursday, January 28, 2010, the Victor Pinchuk Foundation hosted the 3rd Philanthropic Roundtable in Davos, entitled ‘Hi-Teach=High-Tech+Philanthropy+Education’ – one of the largest specialized events on philanthropy that is traditionally held during the World Economic Forum in Davos.

The speakers of the 3rd Roundtable included: President of the State of Israel Shimon Peres; co-founder of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation - Melinda Gates; Founder of Wikipedia Jimmy Wales; Founder of the One Laptop per Child (OLPC) Nicholas Negroponte; President of Intel Foundation Shelly Esque; President of the New York University John Edward Sexton; and Victor Pinchuk, public figure and philanthropist, organizer of the event.

Through the framework of the Roundtable the Foundation initiated international discussion on the ways of development of education in the 21st century, and raised topical issues on how new technologies may improve access to education for everybody, regardless of his/her location or social status; how philanthropists may take advantage of the new opportunities emerging in the field of education; what specific projects out of those existing today are able to demonstrate the ‘Hi-Teach’ of the future.

A new and promising niche opens for philanthropists within the revolution in information and communications technologies (ICT). Multimedia in the Internet, telecommunications, social networks, Web 2.0 and many other innovations in the ICT dramatically change the ways of receiving information, communication, education and knowledge exchange.

More than 300 participants attended the Roundtable; among them were participants of the World Economic Forum, representatives of business, philanthropic and non-profit organizations, and media.

Representatives of Ukraine also took part in the event, including Svyatoslav Vakarchuk, musician and founder of the People of the Future philanthropic foundation; Vitali Klitschko, public figure and sportsman; Igor Litovchenko, President of Kyivstar; Dmytro Shymkiv, Director General of Microsoft Ukraine; Natalie Jaresko, Co-managing Partner of Horizon Capital, WNISEF President and CEO, others.
