Victor Pinchuk: Supporting contemporary art, philanthropists contribute to modernization of societies

Victor PinchukOpening the 4th Davos Philanthropic Roundtable, Ukrainian businessman and public figure Victor Pinchuk emphasised that by supporting contemporary art and making accessible for societies, philanthropists can make a significant contribution to modernization of societies.

According to Victor Pinchuk, in today’s world art has become a revolutionary force. “Art revolutionizes our inner world by opening our eyes and stimulating our imagination. Therefore, art can change societies”, he said, adding that in terms of contemporary art it is fair to the maximum extent. “Great works of contemporary art take in the complexities and dynamics of today’s world and transform them into a language of understanding, great energy and new ideas.” he underlined.

Victor Pinchuk believes that direct access of people to the works of modern art is fundamental. Holding up the PinchukArtCentre as an example, he said: “There are always queues. Mostly young people. If thousands of people have access to such art every day, this can change societies.”

In this case the leading role belongs to philanthropists, for it is them who can help spreading contemporary art around the world. “This is a big task for philanthropy. Supporting contemporary art and making it accessible for societies, philanthropists can inspire and modernize societies.”
