The Victor Pinchuk Foundation Provided Assistance to the “Cradles of Hope” Center in Odesa

The Victor Pinchuk Foundation covered the cost of repairing medical equipment and components for the neonatal intensive care unit at the perinatal center of the Odesa Regional Clinical Hospital. Specifically, six open resuscitation systems with automatic regulation were repaired. The total cost of the repairs and components amounted to 141,013 UAH.

The Odesa Regional Clinical Hospital is a multidisciplinary medical facility. The hospital includes a perinatal center that provides highly specialized medical care to all critically ill pregnant women of reproductive age and their newborns with perinatal conditions from the city of Odesa and the Odesa region, and, under martial law, also to patients from the occupied territories and internally displaced persons, primarily from the Kherson, Mykolaiv, and Donetsk regions. The Odesa Perinatal Center, where approximately 2,000 births take place each year, admits women with extragenital conditions and those at risk of pregnancy loss. The “Cradles of Hope” partner center, based at the perinatal center of the Odesa Regional Clinical Hospital, opened in September 2007. With funding from the Foundation, an operating room and three intensive care beds were equipped in the neonatal intensive care unit at a cost of over 1.6 million hryvnias.

During the full-scale war, as part of funding from the Ukraine Relief Fund, the department received a set of equipment for transporting infants to shelters—an incubator, a ventilator, and three patient warming systems—with a total cost of 1.6 million UAH.

“Recently, the workload on the neonatal intensive care unit has increased due to a rise in the number of premature births,” says Marina Kulchitskaya, head of the unit. “The lives of our little patients depend on the uninterrupted operation of this equipment. That is why the Fund’s constant attention to the condition and functionality of the equipment is extremely valuable to us.”

In total, during the period of cooperation with the Perinatal Center of the Odesa Regional Clinical Hospital as part of the “Cradles of Hope” project (2007–2025), 72,429 babies were born at the center, of whom 7,618 were treated in the neonatal intensive care unit. According to the center’s specialists, more than 7,000 children’s lives have been saved during this time, in part thanks to the medical equipment provided by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation.
