The Victor Pinchuk Foundation Provided Assistance to the “Cradles of Hope” Center in Uzhhorod
The Victor Pinchuk Foundation paid for the repair of medical equipment and purchased spare parts for its partner center, “Cradles of Hope,” which operates in the neonatal intensive care unit of the perinatal center at the Uzhhorod City Multidisciplinary Clinical Hospital, for a total cost of 230,000 hryvnias.
The Foundation systematically supports “Cradles of Hope” centers, annually allocating funds for equipment repairs, spare parts, and consumables to ensure their uninterrupted operation. During the war, this support has been significantly increased, especially for medical facilities that continue to operate in close proximity to the front lines or provide assistance to large numbers of internally displaced persons.
In the absence of a regional perinatal center in the Zakarpattia region, the Uzhhorod City Maternity Hospital effectively fulfills this role, providing highly specialized obstetric, gynecological, and neonatal care to women and children from across Zakarpattia, and for the past 4.5 years, to internally displaced women from all regions of Ukraine. During this period of full-scale war, the facility handles an average of 2,500 births per year, and the neonatal intensive care unit treats more than 170 infants annually, most of whom require long-term, high-tech treatment.
Collaboration with the Uzhhorod City Maternity Hospital on a project to create a nationwide network of “Cradles of Hope” centers The Victor Pinchuk Foundation launched this initiative in December 2010 by opening a partner center of the same name within the neonatal intensive care unit and equipping it with state-of-the-art medical equipment to save premature babies, at a cost of 1,274,048.00 UAH. Since then, the Foundation has consistently supported this maternity hospital, annually allocating funds for equipment repairs and consumables to ensure its uninterrupted operation, and inviting the hospital’s specialists to participate in all educational events within the framework of the “Cradles of Hope” charitable project. Between 2011 and 2026, 786,474 UAH was allocated for the repair and replacement of medical equipment components; specifically, between April and June of this year, four open resuscitation systems and two pulse oximeters were repaired, and six temperature sensors and 15 pulse oximeter sensors were purchased. In addition, as part of the Ukraine Relief Fund charity initiative in 2022, a pediatric ventilator for noninvasive mechanical ventilation and two patient warming systems, valued at 958,277.00 UAH, were donated to the department.
Stepan Bohdan, Head of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit: “When it comes to saving premature babies or infants in critical condition, we must be certain that the equipment in our ICU works flawlessly—as precisely as clockwork, 24/7. That is why timely, highly professional maintenance, replacement of parts, and calibration are extremely important. These aren’t just technical issues—they are moments that are critically important when providing intensive care to a child and that affect the rest of their life. We are very grateful to the Foundation for ensuring that our machines are back in service and that our doctors have everything they need to monitor the condition of our little patients and treat them.”
In total, during the period of cooperation with the Uzhhorod City Maternity Hospital as part of the “Cradles of Hope” project (2011–2025), 51,476 babies were born at this medical facility, of whom 2,875 newborns received medical care in the intensive care unit. According to the center’s specialists, 2,632 infants were saved thanks to the medical equipment provided by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation.
