At the conference of the Victor Pinchuk Foundation's Cradles of Hope programme, neonatologists from all regions of Ukraine discussed treatment and organisation of medical care for newborns
On 27-28 November 2024, the Victor Pinchuk Foundation's Cradles of Hope programme held the 15th international scientific and practical conference ‘Current Issues in the Treatment and Organization of Medical Care for Newborns’ in Kyiv.
Professional development of medical staff, along with supplying partner medical institutions with the most up-to-date medical equipment, is an important component in creating a network of modern neonatal centres ‘Cradles of Hope’.
The conference addressed a number of specialised topics related to newborn care in critical conditions, their thermoregulation, stabilisation in the delivery room, use of various types of respiratory support, cerebral monitoring, hypothermia, as well as improving the quality of care in the context of martial law and limited technical support. The speakers were leading Ukrainian (live) and foreign experts (online), including those from Austria, the United States, Canada, and Japan.
This year's conference was attended by more than 120 leading experts from all regions of Ukraine and foreign specialists: neonatologists, paediatric anaesthetists, representatives of specialised departments of higher medical educational institutions of Ukraine.
“Our doctors are now facing serious challenges. The conditions in which they work in many frontline areas are very difficult. But children are born, and they need medical care. That is why the professional development and growth of our specialists is always important. Besides, for our doctors to gather at our conference now, when our country has been suffering from full-scale Russian aggression for 3 years, gives them an opportunity to talk to like-minded people, hug each other, tell about their achievements and support each other,” said Svitlana Ryabchenko, Head of the Victor Pinchuk Foundation's Cradles of Hope programme.
“The neonatal component is one of the strongest in Ukraine. The health of our nation depends on neonatologists. And the support that the Cradles of Hope project has been providing for over 18 years, including during the full-scale invasion, is a significant contribution to saving children's lives and health. And children are the future of our country,” said Tetiana Znamenska, President of the Association of Neonatologists of Ukraine.
