The Victor Pinchuk Foundation has helped to repair equipment for the Cradles of Hope partner centre in Ternopil

The Victor Pinchuk Foundation has covered the cost of repairs and purchased over UAH 150 000 worth of medical equipment for the Cradles of Hope centre operating on the basis of the neonatal intensive care unit of the Ternopil Oblast Perinatal Centre "Mother and Child".

The Ternopil Oblast Perinatal Centre was established on 1 January 2008 by reorganising the Ternopil City Municipal Maternity Hospital into a third-level obstetric and gynaecological centre providing specialised, highly qualified medical care to pregnant women with obstetric and extragenital pathologies, women in labour and newborns in the Ternopil Oblast and the city of Ternopil. The perinatal centre refers pregnant women at high obstetric risk for treatment and delivery: patients with cardiovascular, lung, kidney, endocrine, and neurological disorders, as well as those with uterine scars, multiple pregnancies, habitual miscarriage, and complicated pregnancy. About 2,500 births take place in the facility per year, and 80-86% of preterm births out of the total number of such births in the region are concentrated here. Each year, an average of 250 babies are treated in the neonatal intensive care unit, the vast majority of whom are preterm.

In December 2009, the neonatal intensive care unit of this institution was equipped with modern medical equipment for respiratory support, treatment and nursing of preterm infants for a total amount of UAH 4 million by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation under the Cradles of Hope programme. Throughout the entire period of cooperation with the Ternopil Cradles, the Victor Pinchuk Foundation has been systematically supporting the institution in ensuring the smooth operation of the donated equipment and professional development of the neonatal intensive care unit team.  

Neonila Skubenko, head of the neonatal intensive care unit, says: "For 15 years, the Victor Pinchuk Foundation has been a reliable partner of our institution, playing a crucial role in the creation and development of the neonatal intensive care unit and improving the professional skills of its staff. This time, the Foundation has purchased a Neopuff breathing resuscitator, which will be used to provide respiratory support to babies immediately after birth in the delivery room, as well as repaired vital signs monitors, resuscitation systems, infusomats, and purchased components for artificial lung ventilation devices."

According to experts, over 3,000 babies have been saved during the period of cooperation with the Ternopil Oblast Perinatal Centre "Mother and Child" under the Cradles of Hope project.
