Victor Pinchuk Fund has covered equipment maintenance for Dnipro Cradles of Hope centre

The Victor Pinchuk Foundation has covered the maintenance of 3 incubators, 4 artificial lung ventilation machines and the patient’s vital functions monitor, and purchased skin temperature sensors for resuscitation tables for the Cradles of Hope centre operating on the base of the neonatal anaesthesiology and intensive care unit at the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Perinatal Centre and its in-patient hospital. The overall cost of the medical equipment maintenance works and the components has amounted UAH 76 026.

The Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Perinatal Centre was established on the base of the former City Maternity House 2. In June 2012, it opened its doors for the patients after reconstruction. The Victor Pinchuk Foundation contributed to the creation of the new centre as part of implementation of the project Cradles of Hope by purchasing up-to-date medical equipment for the neonatal anaesthesiology and intensive care unit, worth UAH 4.17 million.

More than 3500 babies on average are born at the centre every year. The most serious patients – preterm infants (more than 200 babies a year) – receive help at the neonatal intensive care unit. Due to the immaturity of all organs, they require long and high-technology treatment. Almost 90% such infants need breathing function prosthetics and continued temperature and humidity control. This is ensured by artificial lung ventilation machines as well as open and closed neonatal nursing climate systems. Good results in treating such patients may be achieved only under condition of continuous operation of this important equipment.

Liudmyla Padalko, director general: “All the work of our establishment is focused on one goal: birth of a healthy child. At the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Perinatal Centre, 60% region’s women deliver with the duration of gestation which is below 28 weeks, 75% newborns weighing less than 1000 g at birth and 25.5 % with weight up to 1500 g in the region come into being specifically here. These are the most challenging infants whose saving would not have been possible without the up-to-date medical equipment provided by the Foundation.”

Overall, during the period of cooperation with the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Perinatal Centre under the Cradles of Hope project (2012-2020), a total of 32 855 babies have been born at this medical institution, including 1 944 newborns who received medical assistance at the anaesthesiology and intensive care unit. According to the centre's staff, 1 576 babies have been saved thanks to the medical equipment given by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation.
