Victor Pinchuk Foundation has Purchased Expendables for Cradles of Hope Centre in Sumy

In continuation of its systemic efforts to provide technical support to Cradles of Hope partner centres, the Victor Pinchuk Foundation has purchased expendables for continual operation of medical equipment at the neonatal intensive care unit of the Sumy Oblast Clinic Perinatal Centre. The value of sensors and glasses for infant phototherapy handed over to the centre is UAH 48 363.

The Sumy Oblast Clinic Perinatal Centre was reorganised out of the Oblast Clinic Maternity 2 in December 2001. It assumes the functions of a third level specialised high-quality help medical establishment where best perinatal techniques are actively introduced. High pregnancy risk group women from the entire region having complex obstetrical and genetic pathologies deliver at the centre. The average number of deliveries is more than 2500 yearly. The number of preterm deliveries is increasing every year, and therefore the number of the preterm infants with weight below 1500 gram grows. Help to gravest case babies is provided in the intensive care unit where up to 200 infants are treated every year as average.

The Victor Pinchuk Foundation started its cooperation with the Sumy Oblast Clinic Perinatal Centre under the Cradles of Hope programme in 2010 by handing to the newborn intensive care unit and the obstetric unit up-to-date medical and computer equipment of an overall value of UAH 1 245 334. Additionally, refurbishment works were made and expendables were bought for an overall amount of UAH 205 412 funded by the Foundation during the period between 2010 and 2020.

Even at a time that is so challenging for the country, the Foundation, as always, came to help, and bought for the neonatal intensive care unit glasses of phototherapy for infants with jaundice and sensors for pulse oximeters and polyfunctional monitors. Thanks to that equipment, we have an opportunity to improve newborn monitoring and to prevent degradation of their condition.”

Over the period of cooperation with the Sumy Oblast Clinic Perinatal Centre under the Cradles of Hope project (2010 – 1st semester 2020), 29 098 babies have been born at the centre, including 2 315 who have received help in the newborn intensive care unit. According to the centre specialists, 1 484 infants were saved thanks to the equipment supplied by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation.
