The Victor Pinchuk Foundation has covered the cost of repair of the gas analyser for the Cradles of Hope partner centre in Rivne

The Victor Pinchuk Foundation has funded UAH 52 076 the newborn intensive care unit of the Rivne Oblast Perinatal Centre as part of technical support for the Cradles of Hope partner centres. This amount was used to help have the blood gas analyser electrodes and reagents replaced.

The Oblast Perinatal Centre is the first and the only 3rd level prevention and treatment facility in the Rivne Oblast focused on highly specialised medical help to women and newborns. The major activity of the perinatal centre is help in cases of early deliveries, pregnancy and deliveries with somatic and obstetric pathology complications, nursing preterm babies during the neonatal period and providing medical help to reproductive age women.

In February 2013, the Victor Pinchuk Foundation provided the newborn intensive care unit of this establishment with up-to-date medical equipment for an amount of UAH 3 908 153, and opened the 29th Cradles of Hope partner centre on its base.

Oksana Novikova, head of the newborn intensive care unit: “We are most grateful to the Victor Pinchuk Foundation for the technical capacity that we enjoy and for its regular support in equipment repair and staff training. In 2013, our unit received up-to-date preterm newborn nursing equipment: breathers, climate controls and monitoring, diagnostic and laboratory tools. For the last five years, the breathing therapy for newborns has been carried out using a continuous blood gas monitoring, which allows choosing best settings for the artificial lungs ventilation. The efficiency of the breathing support, the results of treatment and the state of our little patients’ health in future depends directly on the flawless operation of the gas analyser.”

Over the period of cooperation with the Rivne Oblast Perinatal Centre under the Cradles of Hope project (2013 – 1st quarter 2018), 18 456 infants have been born at the centre, including 1 735 babies that were treated in the newborn intensive care unit. According to the centre specialists, 1 566 infants were saved thanks, among other factors, to the equipment supplied by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation.
