The Victor Pinchuk Foundation has covered the cost of the medical equipment repair for the Chenihiv Cradles of Hope Centre

The Victor Pinchuk Foundation has provided support to the newborn intensive care unit of the Chernihiv City Maternity Home, covering maintenance repair of medical equipment for an amount of UAH 61 597. More specifically, the compressor, the artificial lungs unit and infusion pumps have been repaired, and parts in phototherapy lights and pulse oximeter sensors have been replaced.

The Chernihiv Maternity Home became the first partner centre for the Cradles of Hope project, launched in June 2006. The overall investment by the Victor Pinchuk foundation in the centre over the partnership period has amounted to UAH 1.79 million. Thanks to the up-to-date medical equipment provided by the Foundation, trainings, seminars and conferences organized, the newborn intensive care unit specialists introduced and have been widely using in their everyday practice best modern techniques to nurse early infants, including those with extremely low weight at birth (500-999 gram). In addition to the newborn intensive care unit, other units of the maternity home received from the Foundation ultrasound machines, fetal monitors to observe the condition of the fetus in the womb, an X-ray machine, an anaesthetic machine for obstetric surgery interventions etc.

The Foundation has been consistently supporting this medical establishment by providing on a yearly basis funds for equipment maintenance and expendables to ensure its continuous functioning.

Oleksandr Goshko, head of the unit: “Thanks to the best quality modern equipment and the continuous technical support of the Victor Pinchuk Foundation, the breathing support at the newborn intensive care unit (artificial lungs ventilation, non-invasive ventilation, CPAP therapy) is now 100% ensured with the breathing devices that were given to us under the Cradles of Hope project. Is allows keeping the quality of breathing therapy at the due level and having surviving rates among the best in Ukraine.“

Over the period of cooperation with the Chernihiv City Maternity Home under the Cradles of Hope project (2006 – 1st quarter 2018), 47 733 babies have been born at the centre, including 3 397 who received help in the newborn intensive care unit. According to the centre specialists, 2 471 infants were saved thanks, among other factors, to the equipment supplied by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation.
