The “BDayVyklyk: first breath” project has handed an infant breath resuscitator to the Odessa Oblast Clinic Hospital Perinatal Centre

Under the charity project “BDayVyklyk: first breath” initiated by Ukrainian Kateryna Sadova with support of the Ukrainian Philanthropic Marketplace, one more infant breath resuscitator NeoPuff TM RD-900 has been purchased for the Victor Pinchuk Foundation’s Cradles of Hope partner centre operating on the base of the Odessa Oblast Clinic Hospital Perinatal Centre. The philanthropists handed the UAH 125 365 device personally to the centre specialists.

As of today, 6 devices have been already purchased under the “BDayVyklyk: first breath” project for Ivano-Frnkivsk, Ternopil, Uzhgorod, Chernihiv, Khmelnytsky and Odessa. Additionally, it is planned to install NeoPuffs at Cradles of Hope partner centres in Vinnytsia, Dnipro, Zaporizhia, Kyiv, Kropyvnytsky, Poltava, Rivne, Sumy, Khmelnytsky and Cherkassy.

Vadym Fisun, head of the newborn intensive care unit: “Preterm babies are the most vulnerable category of patients whose treatment is complex and expensive, and it implies using high-tech medical equipment. The Neopuff device is designed to treat breath disorders and allows carrying out the ‘Sustained Lung Inflation’ manoeuvre to provide breath support to newborns at the first minutes of living onsite in delivery rooms. This method has been implemented and is being used in Ukraine by a number of perinatal centres, and today, our long-nurtured dream to introduce this technique at our establishment has come true. We are really grateful to Kateryna and all those who care for having supported her wonderful initiative”.

The Odessa Oblast clinic Hospital Perinatal Centre assumes the major load of deliveries from high risk group women and early deliveries in the oblast. As an average, 4700 to 4900 babies are born every year at the centre. The number of preterm deliveries is increasing every year, and therefore the number of the preterm infants with an extremely low weight (600 to 999 gram) grows. Help to gravest case babies is provided in the intensive care unit where almost 500 infants are treated every year as average. The Odessa Oblast Clinic Hospital Perinatal Centre received from the Victor Pinchuk Foundation under the Cradles of Hope charity project up-to-date medical equipment for surgery and newborn intensive care unit of an overall value more than UAH 1.5 million in 2007-2008.
