The Victor Pinchuk Foundation has covered cost of repair of hearing screening device

The Victor Pinchuk Foundation has funded UAH 19 404 the newborn intensive care unit of the Rivne Oblast Perinatal Centre as part of technical support for the Cradles of Hope partner centres. This amount was used to help have the Otoread newborn hearing function screening device’s converter replaced.

The Rivne Oblast Perinatal Centre is a 3rd level medical help establishment hosting 123 beds with a capacity of 2700 deliveries per year that offers highly specialized medical help to women and newborns of the Rivne Oblast.

The Victor Pinchuk Foundation started cooperation with this establishment in February 2013 by equipping the newborn intensive care unit with up-to-date medical devices to provide special care for preterm babies, for an amount of UAH 3 908 153.

Oksana Novikova, head of the newborn intensive care unit: “The vast majority of the unit’s patients are preterm newborns. Because of the immaturity of their organs, quite often they suffer from various serious complications where the hearing function disturbance is a separate issue, which results in delayed preverbal and verbal development. The earlier the doctors are enabled to identify such disturbances and take immediate measures, the better is the prognosis for a baby. Thanks to the Victor Pinchuk Foundation, we received in 2013 the Otoread hearing function screening device along with other medical equipment, and have been actively using it. However, time has come to have its converter replaced, and we are very grateful to the Foundation for having immediately responded to our request for help”.

Over the period of cooperation with the Rivne Oblast Perinatal Centre under the Cradles of Hope project (2013 - 3rd quarter 2017), 16 956 infants have been born at the centre, including 1 585 babies that were treated in the newborn intensive care unit. According to the centre specialists, 1 431 infants were saved thanks, among other factors, to the equipment supplied by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation.
