Infant Breath Resuscitator Purchased for the Cradles of Hope centre in Ternopil Under the Project “BDayVyklyk: First Breath”

Under the charity project “BDayVyklyk: first breath” initiated by Ukrainian Kateryna Sadova with support of the Ukrainian Philanthropic Marketplace, another infant breath resuscitator NeoPuff TM RD-900 was purchased for the Victor Pinchuk Foundation’s Cradles of Hope partner centre operating on the base of the Ternopil Oblast Perinatal Centre “Mother and Child”. The device was commissioned on the `13th of October.

Ternopil Oblast Perinatal Centre “Mother and Child” – was launched on the 1st of January, 2008, following a reorganization of the Ternopil city public maternity home into a 3rd level obstetrics and gynecology society for highly skilled specialized help to pregnant women having obstetrical and extragenital pathologies, lying in and recently delivered women and newborns of Ternopil oblast and Ternopil city.

High obstetrics risk group pregnant women are sent to the perinatal centre for treatment and delivery: patients having diseases of cardiovascular system, lungs, renal system, endocrine diseases, neurological disturbances as well as those who have uterine scars, multiple fetation, recurrent miscarriage or complicated course of the current gestation. The establishment hosts about 2500 deliveries every year, and it is here that 80-86% preterm deliveries out of the overall number of such deliveries in the oblast are concentrated.

In 2009, the newborn intensive care unit of this establishment was equipped, and in 2013, additionally equipped with up-to-date medical equipment for breath support, treatment and special care for preterm babies, by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation under the charity programme “Cradles of Hope”. 230-250 infants receive help in this unit every year, most of them being preterm newborns.

The Neopuff device is intended to treat infants’ breath disorders and allows carrying out the Sustained Lung Inflation manoeuvre that is widely used in European countries and in the US. It has already proven its high efficiency, especially to provide breath support to newborns at the first minutes of living onsite in delivery rooms.  The device cost is UAH 125 365.

Now, the specialists of the oblast perinatal centre have an additional top-notch set of tools at their disposal to save small Ternopil citizens.
