The Victor Pinchuk has handed expendables for medical equipment to the Kyiv Perinatal Centre’s Intensive Care Unit

To ensure continuous operation of medical equipment at Cradles of Hope partner centres, the Victor Pinchuk Foundation has purchased 12 sensors for pulse oximeters of an overall value of UAH 61,785 for the Kyiv Perinatal Centre’s Intensive Care Unit.

“The Newborn Intensive Care Unit at the Kyiv Perinatal Centre is the biggest capacity in Ukraine. More than 500 babies receive emergency aid here every year. These are children needing specific high technology treatment involving a large amount of sophisticated equipment. The medical equipment operates non-stop and requires replacement of some elements or parts from time to time. To prevent a situation where a device does not function due to lack of a breathing circuit or a sensor, the Foundation provides a systemic support with expendables to partner centres. These minor, would it seem, things have sometimes a vital importance“, says Cradles of Hope project manager Svitlana Gavrylenko.

The Kyiv Perinatal Centre became Cradles of Hopes partner in February 2012. Since the centre is specialized in serving early deliveries and care of preterm newborn, the Victor Pinchuk invested in equipment of one of the most important of its units, the Newborn Intensive Care Unit. We handed modern breath equipment, infant climate systems, diagnostic, monitoring and auxiliary equipment of an overall value of UAH 4,3 million.

Overall during the period of partnership with the Kyiv Perinatal Centre under the Cradles of Hope project, 34 468 babies have been born in the centre, including 2 727 newborn who received help in the intensive care unit (whereas 331 with extremely low weight between 500 and 999 gram at birth). According to the specialists of the centre, it has become possible to save 1 969 babies also thanks to the medical equipment provided by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation.

The overall investment of the Victor Pinchuk Foundation in the Kyiv Perinatal Centre during the whole period of cooperation (2012 – 2016) has amounted to UAH 4 442 468 (including UAH 200 247 refurbishment works and purchase of expendables).
