Victor Pinchuk Foundation renewed equipment of its “Cradles of Hope” neonatal center in Dnipropetrovsk – Keeping network of cutting edge neonatal centers intact

The Victor Pinchuk Foundation has repaired the equipment and renewed some of its items in neonatal intensive care unit of the Dnipropetrovsk regional perinatal center for 84.000 UAH.

Within the “Cradles of Hope” program, the foundation has opened 32 neonatal centers with cutting edge technical equipment since 2006. This network of neonatal centers working according to international standards has saved 33 600 children since. To keep the Cradles of Hope centers intact and at top level, the foundation renews their equipment periodically and train doctors and nurses with an ongoing conference and training program.

The center in Dnipropetrovsk was created in 2012 with an investment of 4,2 million UAH. Since then, 13 454 infants have been born here, 911 of them were patients of neonatal intensive care unit. According to doctors, 750 babies were saved due to, among others, the equipment installed within the "Cradles of Hope" project.

“Cradles of Hope” is part of the Victor Pinchuk Foundation’s large-scale long term consistent investments into empowering those who build a new country.

“Women from the entire region with serious problems during their pregnancy come to us. Therefore most premature births happen in our hospital. Preemies need high technology medical care,” said the Head of the intensive care department for premature babies Elena Vereshak. “Thanks to the repair and renewal of our equipment provided by Victor Pinchuk Foundation, we can continue to provide this.” She added: “Since we opened the center, he survival rate of babies with extremely low birth weight (up to one kg) grew from 55% (2012) to 76% (2015). Given that the state budget cannot provide means for renewing used or broken equipment, we are grateful that the foundation as our reliable partner allows us to keep our technical equipment in working order.”
