Victor Pinchuk Foundation repaired equipment of the “Cradles of Hope” center at Zhytomyr Regional Perinatal Center

The Victor Pinchuk Foundation repaired breathing and monitoring equipment at the intensive care unit of Zhytomyr Regional Perinatal Center having covered the cost of repair totaling UAH 70 287.

Partnership with Zhytomyr Regional Perinatal Center under the "Cradles of Hope" program began in June 2008, when the Victor Pinchuk Foundation opened there the "Cradles of Hope" center and handed over modern equipment to all departments of the new institution: delivery rooms, surgery theatre, intensive care unit and obstetric intensive care unit, intensive care unit and neonatal intensive care, center for family planning and antenatal protection of the fetus, and laboratory.

The center’s Central sterilization department was created from scratch – the very first department of such level ever opened the public hospital of Ukraine. There, in accordance with modern requirements, all instruments and supplies are sterilized and sealed automatically in sterile packaging, which almost eliminates chances for cross-infection of patients and occurrence of nosocomial infections. Neonatal intensive care unit also received a unique CoolCap machine for craniocerebral hypothermia, the only apparatus in the CIS countries at the time, to prevent damage to the newborn’s central nervous system received as a result of brain injury during obstructed labor.

Over the period of partnership with the “Cradles of Hope” program in 2008-2014, 29 076 infants were born in Zhytomyr Regional Perinatal Center partner hospitals. 1 838 of them were patients of the intensive care and resuscitation units. According to doctors of the Center, 1 670 babies were saved due to, among other things, the equipment installed within the "Cradles of Hope" project implemented by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation).
