Victor Pinchuk Foundation within the “Cradles of Hope” program purchased supplies for Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Perinatal Center

Amidst the economic crisis and with the lack of public funding for Ukrainian medical institutions, the Victor Pinchuk Foundation keeps supporting partner centers “Cradles of Hope”. Medical equipment to save preterm infants that the foundation handed over to the newborns intensive care units in 2006-2014 functions nonstop and has already saved thousands of new lives. To ensure reliable operation of the high-tech equipment it is sometimes necessary to repair or replace parts of it.

Recently we have been approached by the doctors of Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Perinatal Center with a request to help purchase breathing circuits for ALVAs and sensors for vital signs monitors. Without these seemingly minor components the equipment does not work. Even such little things are very important, so once again the Foundation couldn’t stay on the sidelines and gladly responded to the request and purchased supplies for a total value of UAH 39 694,00.

Partnership with Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Perinatal Center under the "Cradles of Hope" program began in 2008, when the Victor Pinchuk Foundation equipped Family Planning Center of this institution with an expert class ultrasound machine, fetal monitor and computer station with peripherals worth UAH 490 152. In 2009 we purchased and handed over to the neonatal intensive care unit a non-invasive ventilation apparatus, an open infant care unit for newborns, a vital signs monitor, phototherapy lamp and other accessories totaling UAH 345 280. In addition, the foundation financed equipment repairs and purchased supplies worth UAH 74 811.

Head of NICU Lubov Kolosovska gratefully acknowledges that with the support of the Victor Pinchuk Foundation enabled them to significantly reduce neonatal mortality, complications after respiratory support, the number of children who had to be transferred to the regional children's hospital for further treatment and ALV. Also, they have managed to reduce significantly the number of operations on blood transfusion.

Over the period of partnership with the “Cradles of Hope” program in 2008-2014, 19 481 infants have been born in Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Perinatal Center partner hospitals. 2713 of them were patients of intensive care and resuscitation units (including 150 little patients with extremely low birth weight below 1 kg ). According to doctors of the Center, 640 babies were saved due to, among other things, the equipment installed within the "Cradles of Hope" project implemented by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation).
