Kyiv neonatal center “New Life” created in partnership with the Victor Pinchuk Foundation, has been awarded with the ISO 9001 standard

On Monday, February 11, neonatal center "New Life", which was created a year ago as part of the national project "New Life - New Quality of Maternity and Childhood" in partnership with the Victor Pinchuk Foundation at the Kyiv City Hospital № 7 (9 Predslavynska Street), received the international certificate of ISO 9001. The presentation of the certificate took place during celebration of the first anniversary of the neonatal center.

Among the participants of the celebration were: Iryna Akimova, First Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine; Oleksandr Popov, Head of Kyiv City State Administration; and Oleksandr Tolstanov, Deputy Minister of Health of Ukraine. In addition, among the guests of the event those parents were present whose children were born with critically low weight and were saved in this center.

The Victor Pinchuk Foundation became a partner in the national project “New Life” initiated by the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych in 2011, and made a commitment to supply intensive care units for newborns with modern medical equipment, allocating for this purpose UAH 100 million.

The First "New Life" Center was opened in Kyiv in February 2012 on the base of the Kyiv City Hospital № 7. It is the second center opened in the framework of the joint project of the State Agency for Investment and National Projects and the Victor Pinchuk Foundation. The total value of the medical and computer equipment handed over to the intensive care unit of the neonatal center totals UAH 4 304 005.64.

According to doctors, thanks to modern equipment supplied by the Foundation, 22% of infants weighing below 1500g were administered non-invasive ventilation, reducing the duration of the respiratory support for children; 3 infants with severe degree of respiratory distress at birth were rescued by the high-frequency oscillatory ventilation; ultrasound apparatus helped in examining 1,415 little patients and also helped to establish heart defects in 3 extremely premature newborns; survival rate of infants in the weight category of 1500 – 2000 grams has increased (98,5%); 58 infants in the weight category up to 1,500 grams were transferred to the second phase of medical care and 51 of them were discharged from the hospital.

Since its opening a year ago, at the neonatal center based at the Kyiv city hospital № 7, 7,189 babies were born, 581 of them were patients of the "Cradles of Hope" intensive care unit, including 52 infants with body weight below 1000g at birth. According to the doctors, 100 babies were saved thanks to medical equipment received from the Victor Pinchuk Foundation.
