Baby girl weighing 510 g at birth saved at Cradles of Hope neonatal center in Ternopil
Doctors of the Mother and Child neonatal center saved a girl who was born on July 13, 2012, in the 5th month of pregnancy, weighing only 510 g. For over a month medical staff of the intensive care unit has been fighting for the infant’s life. During this period, the girl was staying in the special incubator that creates conditions similar to those of the uterus, and was breathing through a ventilator.
On September 3, the girl started breathing independently, and on September, 5 she was transferred to Ternopil Regional Hospital to receive further treatment and care for prematurely born babies.
Pavlynka Khornat is the smallest baby ever cared for at the Mother and Child center. The child was saved thanks to the medical equipment provided by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation during 2009-2011.
Ternopil Regional Neonatal Centre Mother and Child has also been chosen to be a medical institution in the region for implementing New Life national project, partnered by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation. As part of the project, by the end of the current year the institution will undergo reconstruction works. The Victor Pinchuk Foundation, as committed, will provide the intensive care unit with medical equipment worth in total UAH 2.7 million.
