As part of the "New Life" project , the Victor Pinchuk Foundation has provided equipment for the 24th Neonatal Centre "Cradles of Hope" based in Kyiv

Continuing implementation of the program “Cradles of Hope”, the Victor Pinchuk Foundation within the framework of the government project “New Life”, has provided equipment for the 24th neonatal centre “Cradles of Hope” in Kyiv. The overall cost of the medical and computer equipment handed over to the centre totals UAH 4 304 005.64. This centre opened on February 10, 2012, in Kyiv and is based in Kyiv City Maternity Hospital No7.

In 2011 the Victor Pinchuk Foundation became a partner in the national project “New Life” initiated by the President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych and made a commitment to supply intensive care units for newborns with modern medical equipment, allocating for this purpose UAH 100 million.

Head of neonatal intensive care unit of the Kyiv maternity hospital № 7 Valeria Tyshkevych said that the department had five deeply premature babies whose birth weight was much less than a kilogram - 485, 600 and 800 grams. "We were able to put these newborns in incubators where conditions are close to those of intrauterine: they support certain thermal conditions, humidity and oxygen level. Inside them the infants are protected from noise and vibrations. Usually, such babies cannot breathe on their own to begin with, so they would have to be intubated. Now we have a non-invasive respiratory aids that make intubation unnecessary. We have extensive experience in complex nursing of newborns. Our department works since 1996. However, the new equipment will help us save even more children."

Victor Pinchuk: "I am very pleased that about a year ago the President of Ukraine initiated a national project "New Life", and we are proud that our Foundation has become a partner in this project. The task of our Foundation is very important and crucial - equipping intensive care units for newborns. I think we have been successfully coping with it so far."

The opening ceremony was attended by Head of Kyiv City Administration Alexander Popov: "Frankly, I and my colleagues are full of excitement because of what we have seen today. Cutting edge technology helps nursing newborns with birth weight of less than a kilogram. Today we, residents of Kyiv, would like to thank the President of Ukraine for his initiative - national project "New Life", which is being implemented across the country, and gives a chance for these babies, these families to have excellent prospects."

Opening the center in Kyiv is continuing partnership of the Victor Pinchuk Foundation and the National Agency for Investment and management of national projects. In January 2012 the 23rd Neonatal Centre "Cradles of Hope" was opened in Kirovohrad. In 2011 the Foundation also purchased medical equipment for intensive care units of Kharkov Regional Hospital and Donetsk Regional Center for Mother and Child, which are to officially open soon.
