The Victor Pinchuk Foundation Opened its 22nd “Cradles of Hope” Neonatal Centre in Uzhhorod

On Thursday, 2 December 2010, on the basis of Uzhhorod City Perinatal Centre, the Victor Pinchuk Foundation opened the twenty second Neonatal Centre within the framework of its “Cradles of Hope” program. To set up this centre the Victor Pinchuk Foundation allocated UAH 1 294 732.

The Department of Intensive Care of the Uzhhorod City Perinatal Centre received three fully equipped intensive care units, including units for infants with extremely low birth weight. The centre’s maternity theatres were supplied with 4 reanimation and first care sets for newborns. Additionally, according to the up-to-date requirements, an automated compressor machine was installed in a separate room, protecting little patients from negative noise effects.

The new neonatal centre also received four doses of the Curosurf drug valued at UAH 20 684. This surfactant is indicated for the treatment (rescue) of Respiratory Distress Syndrome in premature infants. Its usage reduces mortality rate associated with breathing problems of newborns.

With the centre in Uzhorod, the Victor Pinchuk Foundation takes yet another step to develop a nationwide network of neonatal centres under its “Cradles of Hope” program launched in 2006. During the past four years the Foundation opened 21 centres in Chernihiv, Volodymyrets, Lutsk, Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk, Kyiv (2 centres), Chernivtsi, Bakhchysarai, Izmail, Odesa, Symferopol, Donetsk, Khmelnytsky, Zhytomyr, Cherkasy, Ivano-Frankivsk, Mykolaiv, Ternopil, Sumy and Kherson.

Since the launch of the “Cradles of Hope” program, the Victor Pinchuk Foundation spent UAH 34 153 783 in total on the implementation of the project.
