Cradles of Hope conducted a training course on vital issues of nursing the newborns

On 26-29 May in Kyiv, a seminar “Vital issues of newborn nursing” was organizes by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation under its Cradles of Hope program. The training course was conducted for nurses who work in the newborn wards and intensive care units. Thirty three nurses from all regions of Ukraine joined the seminar.

The objective of the seminar was to offer medical nurses from all over Ukraine a chance to meet, share their experience and skills, compare the key requirements to newborn nursing procedures in different areas of Ukraine and Poland, gain new knowledge and learn new skills.

During the seminar nurses and coaches reviewed general newborn nursing principles and rules for intensive care units, peculiarities of medical care for newborns on ALV machines, particularity of nursing infants in closed and open intensive care systems, sanitation of tracheobronchial tree, enteral and parenteral nutrition, long term nursing for newborns with extremely low birth weight, hygiene and epidemic control and etc. Additionally, the nurses took part in practical workshops, visited a private obstetric clinic “Isida” and an exemplary “Cradles of Hope” centre at Zhytomyr Regional Center for Mother and Child Healthcare.
