Donetsk doctors nursed a newborn weighing 500 grams

For the very first time, medical workers of Donetsk Regional Centre for Mother and Child Care helped a little girl born on 9 December weighing 500 grams to pull through. It all was possible thanks to the equipment installed by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation under its “Cradles of Hope” program.

The extremely premature girl was born with underdeveloped internal organs: brain, lungs and heart. With her lungs artificially ventilated, the girl was kept in an incubator for 28 days.

The baby is 2.5 month old now and weighs 1kg 890g. Together with her mom she is being taken care of in the Regional Centre for Mother and Child Care.

Since 2007, Donetsk Regional Centre for Mother and Child Care is a partner of the “Cradles of Hope” program. The centre was provided with modern respiratory and diagnostics equipment for newborns.

Overall, since the program launch in 2006, the Victor Pinchuk Foundation opened 20 centres: in Chernihiv, Volodymyrets, Lutsk, Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk, Kyiv (2 centres), Chernivtsi, Bakhchysarai, Izmail, Odesa, Simferopol, Donetsk, Khmelnytskyi, Zhytomyr, Cherkasy, Ivano-Frankivsk, Mykolaiv, Ternopil and Sumy.
