The 20th RECOVERY Rehabilitation Center for Wounded Military Personnel Opens in Kyiv Region

An innovative RECOVERY rehabilitation center for wounded military personnel has opened in the Kyiv region. The RECOVERY project was founded by Victor and Olena Pinchuk to support Ukraine’s Security and Defense Forces.

The RECOVERY project is an example of a successful partnership between the private sector and the state, where philanthropists establish innovative rehabilitation centers within public medical institutions. The new RECOVERY center operates on the premises of a departmental medical institution. Each year, 500 Ukrainian military personnel will be able to receive high-quality, evidence-based, state-of-the-art rehabilitation services free of charge.

During the opening of the new center, RECOVERY founder Victor Pinchuk stated:
“Veterans are our heroes. They are young, modern, and strong leaders. It is thanks to them that our state exists and will continue to exist, preserving its independence and sovereignty. Thanks to them, Ukraine has its European future. For generations to come, caring for veterans must become one of the highest priorities of the state. They must be an integral part of society, treated with the deepest respect, and everyone should understand: it is thanks to them that our country exists.

Therefore, everything related to supporting veterans must be an unconditional priority. Rehabilitation will, unfortunately, continue for years: some will fully recover from their injuries, while for others it will become a lifelong journey. That is why modern rehabilitation centers and highly qualified professionals will be needed today, tomorrow, and in the future.”

The RECOVERY center includes dedicated areas for patient admission and assessment, physical therapy, laser therapy, and massage. A separate main rehabilitation area features a spacious physical therapy gym, occupational therapy rooms, individual therapy rooms, speech and language therapy facilities, and workspaces for the multidisciplinary rehabilitation team.
Funded by the RECOVERY project, the center is equipped with state-of-the-art rehabilitation equipment that enables specialists to treat a wide range of functional impairments, including those resulting from gunshot wounds and blast injuries. The equipment supports the restoration of gait, upper and lower limb function, balance, coordination, joint mobility, and muscle strength. The physical rehabilitation rooms are equipped with virtual reality systems that provide real-time feedback to patients.

The inpatient department of the RECOVERY center accommodates 23 beds. Nine patient rooms have been arranged: seven triple rooms, one single room, and one family room. All rooms feature accessible bathrooms with showers and are equipped with electrically adjustable hospital beds and furniture to ensure a comfortable stay. The center also includes a 24-hour nurses’ station, as well as treatment, dressing, and examination rooms.

The RECOVERY center is staffed by two multidisciplinary rehabilitation teams. They include physicians specializing in Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine, physical therapists, physical therapist assistants, an occupational therapist and occupational therapy assistant, rehabilitation nurses, as well as an internist, a neurologist, and a cardiologist. The center’s specialists continuously improve their professional qualifications through internships, training, and educational platforms while implementing modern rehabilitation approaches.

“In physical rehabilitation, it is essential that the patient remains at the center of every decision—their condition, needs, goals, and recovery journey. When a professional team works around the individual rather than solely around the diagnosis or injury, rehabilitation becomes faster, more effective, and of higher quality. For us, it is important not only to restore function but also to build trust and understanding between the patient and the team. This is what gives people a sense of safety, the motivation to move forward, and tangible recovery outcomes,” said Olha Svyst, Head of Physical Rehabilitation.

As of today, 20 RECOVERY rehabilitation centers providing free rehabilitation services to military personnel are operating across Ukraine. They are located in Vinnytsia, Dnipropetrovsk region (three facilities), Kyiv (two facilities), Kyiv region (three facilities), Lutsk, Lviv, Odesa (two facilities), Poltava, Rivne, Ternopil, Khmelnytskyi, Cherkasy, Chernivtsi, and Chernihiv. Altogether, more than 48,000 patients have already received rehabilitation services at the RECOVERY national network of rehabilitation centers.
