The Victor Pinchuk Foundation has provided assistance to the Cradles of Hope partner centre in Cherkasy
The Victor Pinchuk Foundation has provided assistance to the Cradles of Hope partner centre by paying for the repair of equipment and purchasing components for the neonatal intensive care unit of the Cherkasy City Maternity Hospital ‘Mother and Child Centre’. The cost of the equipment and components was UAH 87,804.00.
7 LED phototherapy lamps of lower and upper irradiation types, 3 artificial lung ventilation devices were repaired, and the consumables necessary for breathing equipment (hoses, hose heaters, adapters, moisture collectors) were transferred. The assistance was provided as part of the ongoing support to the Cradles of Hope network of partner neonatal centres to ensure the smooth operation of medical equipment, which is an extremely important component of the treatment process and the rescue of babies in critical conditions.
In July 2008, as part of the national project to create a network of Cradles of Hope neonatal centres, the Victor Pinchuk Foundation started cooperation with Cherkasy City Maternity Hospital No. 2. The intensive care unit was provided with 2 sets of modern equipment for nursing preterm babies and children with complex pathologies. As a result of the merger of the two municipal maternity facilities in 2020, the Cradles of Hope partner centre continues to operate at the Mother and Child Centre maternity hospital.
The centre is a highly specialised medical facility in the city that provides emergency, qualified inpatient obstetric and gynaecological and outpatient medical care to pregnant women, women in labour, new mothers and newborns from the city and region, as well as to internally displaced women from other regions of Ukraine, which has resulted in an increase in the volume of services by up to 20%. During the war, the maternity hospital delivered 2,912 babies (including 297 to internally displaced women), and 2,924 infants were born, including 232 who needed intensive care in the neonatal intensive care unit. The Victor Pinchuk Foundation has once again supported the Cradles of Hope centre in Cherkasy, given the high load on the equipment that operates non-stop.
With the aim of reducing infant mortality in Ukraine, the Victor Pinchuk Foundation continues to build a network of neonatal centres across the country, providing them with state-of-the-art medical equipment and upgrading the skills of medical staff. As of early 2024, 35 Cradles of Hope centres have been equipped. The Victor Pinchuk Foundation's total investment in the Cradles of Hope programme since its inception (2006 - 1st half of 2024) has amounted to over UAH 157.9 million.
