Victor Pinchuk Foundation Presented Deciding Your Tomorrow Exhibition on the occasion of the Munich Security Conference
February 16, 2024, Munich, Germany. — Victor Pinchuk Foundation and the PinchukArtCentre in cooperation with the Office of the President of Ukraine presented the Deciding Your Tomorrow exhibition, on the occasion of the Munich Security Conference (MSC).
Wolfgang Ischinger, Ambassador (ret), President, MSC Foundation Council, YES Board Member; Victor Pinchuk, Founder, YES, Victor Pinchuk Foundation, and EastOne Group; Olga Stefanishyna, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Ukraine participated in the opening ceremony and shared their thoughts on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
Björn Geldhof, Artistic Director, PinchukArtCentre made a tour through the exhibition for the participants.
Inaugurating the event, Wolfgang Ischinger stressed the importance of the impact that the US assistance to Ukraine has on the global order: “The most important asset that the USA has as a global power is the system of alliances and partners. And if they drop partners and alliances, if they try to forget about the assistance that Ukraine continues to require, that will have a devastating impact on global credibility and the role of the USA.”
Taking the floor, Victor Pinchuk said: “With this exhibition, we want to get under your skin, under the skin of participants of the Munich Security Conference.”
“Ukrainians are fighting not only for their own independence, but for the western values, for the freedom, for the security of all Western world. We believe that this exhibition will contribute to our victory,” he added.
Olga Stefanishyna continued, saying: “Now Ukraine’s European friends and partners understand the power of making decisions rather than discussing decisions. That’s a huge difference. So rest assured that Ukraine will use each opportunity to boost, to curb and to unite Europe for the sake of our support.”
“Ukraine will prevail anyway. Because Europe will have to prevail. There is no way for Europe to fail,” she added.
The Deciding Your Tomorrow exhibition offers an immersive experience, inviting participants to revisit what is at stake in Ukraine. Three contemporary Ukrainian artists, Oleksii Sai, Yarema Malashchuk and Roman Khimei, depict Ukraine through a series of compelling video portraits and stories.
The exhibition includes a film by Oleksii Sai, in which the author shows the clock ticking, looking back at every single day of Ukraine’s defence since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion. An impressive moving visual diary of Ukrainians defending freedom, taking losses, and moving to victories. It shows how much was achieved, how much courage and heroism, but also how much suffering and danger have been present for all Ukrainians since February 24, 2022.
Combined with an updated map and statistics of Russian war crimes in Ukraine, this film is put as a juxtaposition to a curated live stream of TikTok content from Ukraine where people defiantly live their lives, finding joy, love, and moments of happiness while under constant threat.
Another part of the exhibition is a multi-channel video by Yarema Malashchuk and Roman Khimei. The artists present moving portraits of Ukrainian children who were kidnapped by Russia and returned home safely. Bringing the world's attention to a systematic War Crime Russia commits in Ukraine. At the same time, this work is a homage to all children in Ukraine who live under the systematic risk of being taken from their homes.
The Deciding Your Tomorrow exhibition is organized by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation and the PinchukArtCentre in cooperation with the Office of the President of Ukraine. It is open for the MSC participants on 16-18 February 2024 at Hotel Rosewood, Kardinal-Faulhaber-Straße 1, Munich.
