Victor Pinchuk Foundation has purchased expendables for Cradles of Hope partner centre in Sumy
The Victor Pinchuk Foundation, as part of its technical support for the Cradles of Hope partner centres, has purchased expendables for provision of continued operation of the medical equipment at the neonatal intensive care unit of the Sumy Oblast Clinic Perinatal Centre. The overall cost of the sensors, hubs and glasses for infant phototherapy handed to the centre has amounted UAH 60 348.
The Sumy Oblast Clinic Perinatal Centre was reorganised out of the Oblast Clinic Maternity 2 in December 2001. It assumes the functions of a third level specialised high-quality help medical establishment where best perinatal techniques are actively introduced. High pregnancy risk group women from the entire region having complex obstetrical and genetic pathologies deliver at the centre. The average number of deliveries is more than 2500 yearly. Help to gravest case babies is provided in the intensive care unit where up to 200 infants are treated every year as average.
The Victor Pinchuk Foundation started its cooperation with the Sumy Oblast Clinic Perinatal Centre under the Cradles of Hope programme in 2010 by handing to the newborn intensive care unit and the obstetric unit up-to-date medical and computer equipment of an overall value of UAH 1 245 334. Additionally, refurbishment works were made and expendables were bought for an overall amount of UAH 265 760 funded by the Foundation during the period between 2010 and 2021.
Yulia Tresnytska, head of the newborn intensive care unit: “Recently, regretfully, the number of preterm deliveries has been growing, and respectively, more babies get treated at our unit. The medical equipment given by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation operates 24 hours a day, and enables saving more than a hundred of children’s lives every year. Timely provision in expendables is a guarantee for continued operation of this vital equipment.”
Over the period of cooperation with the Sumy Oblast Clinic Perinatal Centre under the Cradles of Hope project (2010 – 1st semester 2021), 30 503 babies have been born at the centre, including 2 551 who have received help in the newborn intensive care unit. According to the centre staff, 1 692 infants were saved thanks to the equipment supplied by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation.
