Victor Pinchuk Foundation has covered maintenance and provided expendables for medical equipment at Uzhgorod Cradles of Hope Centre

The Victor Pinchuk Foundation has covered the cost of maintenance of the pulse oximeter, resuscitation table and aspirator, and provided the necessary expendables for the neonatal intensive care unit at the Cradles of Hope centre based on the Uzhgorod City Maternity, amounting UAH 49,803.

The Uzhgorod city maternity hospital operates as a level III oblast medical care institution, concentrating patients from the entire region with severe obstetric pathology and preterm delivery. On average, nearly 4,000 deliveries are served here annually.

According to the maternity doctors, with the opening of the Cradles of Hope centre in 2010, the hospital has substantially improved the level and quality of neonatal care. Thanks to the Victor Pinchuk Foundation, the neonatal intensive care unit was equipped with state-of-the-art high-tech respiratory, monitoring and auxiliary equipment, open- and closed-type climate control systems and computer equipment worth UAH 1,274,048.

In addition, the Foundation systemically supports partners by complementing, upgrading and repairing medical equipment. Over the period from 2011 to 2020, it has provided UAH 322,000 for these purposes. Doctors and nurses working at the unit regularly take part in all Foundation's educational programmes organised under the Cradles of Hope project.

Stepan Bohdan, head of the neonatal intensive care unit: “Thanks to the equipment provided by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation since 2010, more than 2000 babies have been saved at the intensive care unit. Every year, the number of preterm infants needing treatment at our unit grows. The equipment has been operating non-stop with a heavy load, and therefore, it regularly requires maintenance and replacement of components. Due to the lack of funds in the local budget, these issues are difficult to address promptly, and the idle time of the equipment gone broken may cost lives, so we are especially grateful to the Foundation for the many-years support and help.”

Overall, in the years of cooperation with the Uzhgorod City Maternity Hospital under the Cradles of Hope project (2011-9 months of 2020), a total of 37,238 babies have been born at this medical institution, including 2,239 newborns who received medical assistance at the intensive care unit. According to the centre's experts, 2,026 babies have been saved thanks to, among other factors, the medical equipment provided by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation.
