Victor Pinchuk Foundation pays for repairs and donates supplies for medical equipment of the Cradles of Hope centre in Uzhgorod

The Victor Pinchuk Foundation has spent UAH 62,733 on repairing respiratory equipment, pulse oximeters, resuscitation tables and providing the necessary supplies for the neonatal intensive care unit of the Cradles of Hope partner centre at the Uzhgorod city maternity hospital.

The Uzhgorod city maternity hospital acts as a regional institution of the 3rd level of medical care, which concentrates patients from the whole region with severe obstetric pathology and preterm labour. On average, nearly 4,000 births are given here annually.

According to doctors, with the opening of the Cradles of Hope centre in 2010, the hospital has significantly improved the level and quality of neonatal care. Thanks to the Victor Pinchuk Foundation, the neonatal intensive care unit was equipped with state-of-the-art high-tech respiratory, monitoring and auxiliary equipment, open- and closed-type climate control systems and computer equipment worth UAH 1,274,048.

In addition, the Fund systemically supports partners by retrofitting, upgrading and repairing medical equipment. From 2011 to June 2019, it allocated UAH 321,772 for these purposes. Doctors and nurses working at the department regularly take part in all of the Foundation's educational programmes organised as part of the Cradles of Hope project.

Volodymyr Yerem, head of the neonatal intensive care unit: "Thanks to the equipment provided by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation, nearly 2,000 infants have been rescued by the neonatal intensive care unit since 2010. Eight to 10 babies are often treated in this ward designed for four beds only. The equipment is used non-stop and very heavily, so from time to time it needs to be repaired or some its components replaced. Due to the lack of funds in the local budget, it is almost impossible to promptly carry out such works. Not having equipment in service can cost someone life, so we are extremely grateful to the Fund for its continuous technical support."

During the period of cooperation with the Uzhgorod city maternity hospital within the framework of the Cradles of Hope project (2011-June 2019), a total of 32,503 babies have been born in this medical institution, including 1,933 newborns who received medical assistance in the intensive care unit. According to the centre's experts, 1,755 babies have been rescued, in particular thanks to the medical equipment provided by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation.
