Educational materials "Encountering memory", which include a manual for teachers and a DVD with the film "Spell Your Name" with didactic fragments of the film for teachers, - are addressed to educators and tutors to be used while teaching junior pupils of secondary schools. Proposed materials can be incorporated in a number of other school subjects, such as "History of Ukraine", "World History", "Man and the World," "Man and Society", as well as extracurricular activities.

Working with the manual will help teachers and pupils develop skills of historical research, interpretation of complex and often controversial historical events, understand the need to oppose xenophobia and discrimination in the modern world, and foster tolerance and democratic coexistence.

The manual was elaborated by Oleksandr Voitenko and Mykhailo Tiahlyi under supervision of the Shoa Foundation and with financial support from the Victor Pinchuk Foundation.

Lessons "Babi Yar: What’s in our memory" can be offered to students not only within this special course, but also when studying World War II at the History of Ukraine classes. They also can be used as pedagogical material for the days of commemoration of Holocaust and World War II victims.

All materials are prepared within the framework of the educational program of the "Holocaust by bullets: mass shootings of Jews in Ukraine in 1941-1944" exhibition by Father Patrick Debua, timed to coincide with the 70th anniversary of the Babi Yar tragedy.
