June 15, at 08:30 p.m. Sir Elton John is to play a free AIDS awareness concert at the Independence Square

'I am happy to announce that on Saturday 16th June 2007 I will be playing to the citizens and visitors of Kyiv at a free AIDS awareness concert at one of the city's most beautiful squares', said Elton John. My Foundation has funded twenty-three HIV/AIDS related projects in Ukraine over the last six years totaling over $2.6 million. This concert will enable us to consolidate funds for the future projects. This concert as well as our future cooperation would not be possible without friendship and assistance of Elena Franchuk and Victor Pinchuk and their Foundations. I would like to dedicate the concert to them and to many Ukrainians with HIV/AIDS that they have supported'.

As of today, Elton John has 59 Top 40 singles. In 1993, the musician surpassed Elvis Presley on the number of Hit-singles that remained at the 40 top of Billboard's charts during the year. By 1999, it was recognized as record-setting achievement lasting for 29 years in a row that no one has surpassed so far.

Elton John was deeply affected by the death of Freddie Mercury in 1991, and since then he started to actively fight against AIDS, created the Elton John AIDS Foundation and became an active public figure and at the same time, he was expanding horizons of his musical career.
