PinchukArtCentre opened application procedure for the third edition of the PinchukArtCentre Prize

Today, January 30, 2013 the PinchukArtCentre has opened application procedure for the third edition of the PinchukArtCentre Prize, a nationwide prize in contemporary art for young Ukrainian artists. The PinchukArtCentre Prize is the first privately funded award in Ukraine, aimed at fostering, supporting and developing a new generation of young Ukrainian artists.

Submission of works for the competition shall only be performed on-line via prize.pinchukartcentre.org from 30 January to 28 April 2013.

The PinchukArtCentre Prize is a biannual prize awarded to the best Ukrainian artists up to 35, starting from 2009. Artists with Ukrainian citizenship working with any genre of contemporary art, including painting, photography, video, sculpture, installation, documents and etc., may apply for the competition. 

Bjorn Geldhof, Deputy Artistic Director, PinchukArtCentre: “Every 2 years we are pleasantly surprised by the level of interest of Ukrainian young artists to the PinchukArtCentre Prize.  Over a short history of the Prize we brought many new talented figures to the Ukrainian art scene. We are launching the third edition of the Prize and lookg forward to seeing new works submitted for the competition by young artists.”  

The Main Prize, two Special Prizes and the "Public Choice Prize" shall be awarded within the framework of the PinchukArtCentre Prize: 

  • The Main Prize is UAH 100 000 and includes internship in the studios of the world leading artists;
  • Two Special Prizes is UAH 25 000 each and include internship in the studios of the world leading artists;
  • The Public Choice Prize is UAH 10 000. The winner of the Public Choice Prize shall be determined by votes of the visitors attending the exhibition of the shortlisted artists. 

The winner of the Main Prize will be automatically included in the shortlist of the Future Generation Art Prize 2014 – an International Art Prize for young artists. 

Individual artists, as well as groups of artists are allowed to participate in the competition.  One artist (or a group of artists) may submit from 3 to 7 works. The applications should be submitted according to the PinchukArtCentre Prize Rules.  The primary selection shall be performed by the Expert Committee consisting of art centre curators and contemporary art experts. The shortlist of the PinchukArtCentre Prize 2013 nominees will be announced by the Expert Committee in June 2013. 

Exhibition of the nominees for the PinchukArtCentre Prize will be open from October 26, 2013 till January 5, 2014.

The winners of the Main and Special Prizes will be named by the International Jury of PinchukArtCentre Prize in December 2013. The names of the Jury members - the world’s leading contemporary art experts - will be announced at the opening of the exhibition of the shortlisted artists. The winner of the Public Choice Prize will be determined by voting of the visitors attending the exhibition.

Winners of the first edition of the PinchukArtCentre Prize were selected in December 2009. Artem Volokitin won the Main PinchukArtCentre Prize and Oleksii Salmanov and Masha Shubina became the winners of two Special Prizes. The winners of the second edition of the PinchukArtCentre Prize in 2011 included Mykyta Kadan - Main Prize, Zhanna Kadyrova and Serhiy Radkevych - Special Prizes and Mykyta Shalennyi - Public Choice Prize.

The PinchukArtCentre Main Prize winners Artem Volokitin and Mykyta Kadan were automatically included in the shortlists of the Future Generation Art Prize in 2010 and 2012. Volokitin took part in the Future Generation Art Prize @ Veniceat the Venice Biennale in 2011 and Kadan will take part in 2013 respectively.

The PinchukArtCentre is a leading international centre for contemporary 21st-century art. It provides a sustainable contribution to the cultural participation and emancipation of Ukrainian art and society. It also gives a significant contribution to the cultural dialogue between East and West, and between national identity and international challenge. Recent events have included personal exhibitions by Jeff Wall, Gary Hume, Olafur Eliasson, Candice Breitz, Damian Ortega, Sergey Bratkov, Subodh Gupta, Damien Hirst, Anish Kapoor, and others. The art centre has founded Prizes to support national and international young artists up to 35. The PinchukArtCentre represented Ukraine at the Venice Biennale on several occasions.
