Victor Pinchuk Foundation to host Public Lecture “How to Get the Global Economy Back on Track” featuring director of the Peterson Institute for International Economics Fred Bergsten

On Friday, November 18, 2011, the Victor Pinchuk Foundation will host a Public Lecture featuring Doctor C. Fred Bergsten, director of the Peterson Institute for International Economics.

The lecture to be given by this famous American economist is entitled How to Get the Global Economy Back on Track. After the lecture Dr. Bergsten will answer questions of the audience. Traditionally, the event will be attended by Zavtra.UA scholarship holders, selected students of the top Ukrainian universities and Ukrainian experts.

The Peterson Institute is led by Dr. Bergsten since its creation in 1981 and is the only major research institution in the United States devoted to international economic issues. It has been called "the most influential think tank on the planet".

Dr. Bergsten has been the most widely quoted think tank economist in the world over the eight-year period (1997–2005(. He was ranked 37 in the top 50 "Who Really Moves the Markets?" by Fidelity Investment’s Worth and as "one of the ten people who can change your life" by USA Today, along with the inventor of the World Wide Web and the discoverer of ozone layer depletion. He has received the Meritorious Honor Award of the Department of State, the Exceptional Service Award of the Treasury Department, and the Legion d’Honneur from the Government of France. Fred Bergsten has been named an honorary fellow of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

By organizing such a dialogue between world leaders, experts and Ukrainian students, the Foundation contributes to fostering a new generation of responsible leaders. For five years, the Foundation has been inviting internationally renowned economists, politicians and public figures to Ukraine to discuss today’s challenges facing the country and the world.

Following experts have previously given public lectures: Dr. Robert Engle, 2003 Nobel Prize Laureate; Dr. Francis Fukuyama, Professor of International Political Economy at the Johns Hopkins University; co-author of ‘Microeconomics’ Dr. Robert Pindyck; James Wolfensohn, the 9th president of the World Bank Group; Muhammad Yunus, 2006 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate; Colin Powell, the 65th US Secretary of State; Javier Solana, former High Representative for Common Foreign and Security Policy of the European Union (1999-2009) and Secretary General of NATO (1995-1999); former Vice Chancellor of Germany Joschka Fischer; the 42nd President of the United States Bill Clinton; President of Israel Shimon Peres; Tony Blair, former Prime minister of Great Britain Tony Blair and others.

The Victor Pinchuk Foundation has provided assistance to the Khmelnytsky City Perinatal Center

The Victor Pinchuk Foundation, as part of its systemic support of the Cradles of Hope partner centers, has paid for the repair of an ultrasound diagnostic machine, two artificial lung ventilation devices, three open resuscitation systems and purchased sensors, cables and injectors for the equipment in the anaesthesiology department with intensive care units for newborns and premature infants of the Khmelnytsky City Perinatal Centre. The cost of repairs and components amounted to UAH 174,633.



The largest rehabilitation center of the national RECOVERY network has opened in the Kyiv region

The National Network of Rehabilitation Centers RECOVERY, founded by Victor and Olena Pinchuk to support Ukraine’s Security and Defense Forces, is expanding with its largest center. The new center was opened on the premises of one of the key medical institutions of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, where, after a large-scale reconstruction, five floors were transformed into an innovative and fully inclusive space for the rehabilitation of wounded service members — with 104 beds.

The first mental health center of the nationwide network RETURNING, founded by Victor and Olena Pinchuk, opened in Dnipro

A modern and comfortable mental health center for military personnel, veterans, and their family members has started operating in the city of Dnipro. This is the first center of the nationwide network RETURNING (ukr. POVERNENNYA), founded by Victor and Olena Pinchuk to support Ukraine’s security and defense forces. Every year, more than 4,000 defenders of Ukraine and their family members will be able to receive comprehensive mental health support here.
