The PinchukArtCentre Opens an Exhibition of 20 PinchukArtCentre Prize Nominees on 31 October 2009

On Saturday, 31 October, the PinchukArtCentre opens a new exhibition - a group show of the 20 shortlisted nominees for the PinchukArtCentre Prize. The show includes more than 110 works by young Ukrainian artists such as: Myroslav Vayda, Artem Volokitin, Andriy Halashyn, Gamlet Zinkivskyi, Mykyta Kadan, Zhanna Kadyrova, Maya Kolesnik, Volodymyr Kuznetsov, Lada Nakonechna, Oksana Protsenko, Oleksiy Say, Oleksiy Salmanov, Olesia Khomenko, Oleksiy Khoroshko, Ivan Chubukov, Masha Shubina and groups BLUEMOLOKO, Hat, SOSka and SYN. The exhibition will last until 20 December.

The short-listed artists' exhibition will be on display on the 3rd and 4th floors of the art centre and present both the works selected in the competition and the new works created by each artist especially for the exhibition. Olexandr Soloviov curates the show.

The winners of the Main and the two Special prizes will be rewarded with the cash prizes of UAH 100 000 and UAH 25 000 accordingly and have an opportunity to enter one month apprenticeship at the studios of the internationally renowned artists: Andreas Serrano in
New York, Olafur Eliasson in Berlin and Antony Gormley in London.

The Prize laureates will be determined by the members of the jury including Francesco Bonami, artistic director of Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo (Turin); Serhiy Bratkov, artist (Moscow); Udo Kittelmann, director of Neue Nationalgalerie (Berlin); Boris Mikhailov, artist (Berlin); Jessica Morgan, curator at Tate Modern (London).

The winner of the People's Choice Prize shall be determined by the vote of the PinchukArtCentre Prize exhibition visitors. The voting will last from 29 October to 29 November 2009.

The British artist Damien Hirst will arrive to Kyiv specifically to present awards to the Prize winners. The PinchukArtCentre Prize award ceremony will take place on 4 December 2009.

In parallel with the Prize nominees showcase, there will run an exhibition featuring over 40 selected PinchukArtCentre collection paintings, photographs and video installations by seven seminal Ukrainian artists of 1990s: Serhiy Bratkov, Olexandr Gnylytsky, Olexandr Roitburd,
Arsen Savadov and Georgy Senchenko, Vasyl Tsagolov and Illya Chichkan. The exhibits were created in 1988-2006.

 

As part of the exhibition of 20 PinchukArtCentre Prize nominees opening at 12:00 on 31 October, there will be a number of talks between young Ukrainian artists and visitors of the PinchukArtCentre. The meetings are to be held on Saturday, 31 October, and Sunday, 1 November 2009, in the video lounge on the 6th floor of the art centre.

During these meetings the young artists will talk about their background, art career and answer questions from the audience. Later they will present the viewers their own works on display.

Admission to these meetings is free.

Voting procedure for the People's Choice Prize nomination, part of the PinchukArtCentre Prize:
The voting forms will be available at the PinchukArtCentre reception. The filled in form should be put into the box installed next to the reception on the 2nd floor or on the 4th floor in the hall, next to the elevator. Only one vote per person and for one candidate is permitted.

The 12th mental health center of the nationwide RETURNING network opens in Zhytomyr

A comfortable, inclusive, and modern RETURNING (ПОВЕРНЕННЯ - ukr.) mental health center for service members, veterans, and their families has opened in Zhytomyr. This is the twelfth center in the nationwide network founded by Victor and Olena Pinchuk to support the mental health of Ukraine’s defenders, veterans, and their families affected by the psychological consequences of war.



The Victor Pinchuk Foundation provided assistance to three healthcare institutions treating newborn babies

For over 20 years, the Victor Pinchuk Foundation has been systematically supporting partner centres of the Cradles of Hope programme, which are engaged in nursing and treating newborn babies. Every year, the Foundation allocates funds for the purchase and repair of equipment, components and consumables to ensure uninterrupted operation. Since the start of the full-scale invasion, this assistance has been significantly increased, especially for medical facilities that continue to operate in close proximity to the front line or provide assistance to large numbers of internally displaced persons.
