Sir Elton John began collecting photographs in 1991. His collection is now regarded as one of the leading private photography collections in the world. It contains more than 5,000 fine art photographs from major vintage 20th century modernist works to the cutting-edge contemporary images. The High Museum of Art in Atlanta (GA, USA) was the first and only institution to present highlights from the unique Collection of Sir Elton John seven years ago. Ukrainians are to be the luckiest in Europe to see the collection.

Sir Elton John's photography collection is considered to be one of the best private photography collections in the world. The works of art are normally in Sir Elton John's homes, apartments and some of them were featuring in Atlanta's High Museum of Art (managed by Jane Jackson, the curator of Sir Elton John's collection). At the beginning of 1990s, a part of the collection was featured in Atlanta's Museum, however, after that, Elton John did not show it anywhere. In other words, almost all of the works are to be shown in Kyiv's exhibition are shown for the first time”, - emphasized Victor Pinchuk, a businessperson and patron of arts.

The exhibition in PinchukArtCentre shows 150 selected works by 24 contemporary photographers, including such renowned ones as David LaChapelle, Nan Goldin, Zhang Huan, Sam Taylor Wood, Rineka Dijkstra, Loretta Lux, Ruud Van Empel, Hiroshi Sugimoto and others. Sir Elton John's photography collection is one of the first steps on the way of implementing the road map of PinchukArtCentre in the effort to familiarize Ukrainians with the best contemporary artists and collections.

"We are pursuing challenging plans in showing the "top of the top". We are planning to launch several serous projects. The first one will be the exhibition of Sir Elton John's photography collection, the next one organized in September, is also extremely challenging. A year ago, we organized exhibitions featuring very beautiful masterpieces, though one may easily see them in any world-known museum. And starting form the September we are set to feature only top of the top", - pointed out a founder of PinchukArtCentre. On June 7, PinchukArtCentre will also participate in oncoming event, opening of the Ukrainian Pavilion at 52nd International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia.

An Instinctive Eye:  A Selection of Contemporary Photographs from the Sir Elton John Collection will be the fourth exhibition in PinchukArtCentre. From the moment of PinchukArtCentre opening more than 100 000 people visited it.
