A large-scale tour of LENCOM theatre in Ukraine

The legendary theatre LENCOM, with whose performances a number of generations grew up, opens its new tour season in the independent Ukraine.  After a five-year long pause, this Moscow theatre came to Kyiv again, at the invitation of Victor Pinchuk. The spectators will have the chance to see the three performances, which have not been shown in Ukraine before:

«The City of Millionaires» (the theatrical fantasy after Eduardo De Filippo's play "Filumena Marturano", which was awarded the "Golden Mask" prize in 2000). The director - Roman Samgin, artistic director of the performance - Mark Zakharov. The leading roles are played by: Inna Churikova, Gennadiy Khazanov, Sergey Stepanchenko and others.

February 27 and 28, March 1 -  The National Academic Theatre of Russian Drama named after Lesya Ukrainka (at Bogdana Khmelnytskoho street, 5).

«Va-Bank». The production by Mark Zakharov. The leading roles are played by: Alexandra Zakharova, Alexander Zbruev, Victor Rakov, Sergey Stepanchenko and others.

March 3, 4, 5 -  The International Centre of Culture and Arts (at Institutskaya street, 1).

"One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest" (The Eclypse) The production by Alexander Morfov. The leading roles are played by: Alexander Abdulov, Yelena Shanina, Sergey Stepanchenko and others.  The performance was nominated for the "Golden Mask" prize.

March 8, 9, 10 - The International Centre of Culture and Arts (at Institutskaya street, 1).

A characteristic feature of LENCOM theatre performances is their grandeur, as well as massive and complex settings.  Thus, 10 trucks having the capacity of 82 cubic meters each were needed to deliver all necessary things for the performances in Kyiv. The total weight of the equipment and the settings is about 40 tons.

The "LENCOM" theatre always remains true to its principle, which is to show to spectators during its tours the performances, which are completely identical with Moscow productions, using the same settings and cast. In total, 68 actors take part in the three performances, and the backstage staff of 47 persons supports the performances.

Mark Anatoliyovych Zakharov, the artistic director of LENCOM theatre, says: „It takes some courage to pull over all our riches, all our equipment, settings and costumes to Kyiv. The facilities are rather bulky, unfortunately, and not well adapted to the tours. The carriages used in "Va-Bank" performance are almost real, you can ride in them. And as for the settings you will see in the "City of Millionaires" - you can just live there".

Since 1994, this will be the sixth tour of the theatre, which takes place under the patronage of Victor Pinchuk. The tour was organized by Victor Pinchuk Foundation.
