The Victor Pinchuk Foundation is establishing the Kiev School of Economics

The Victor Pinchuk Foundation and the Economic Education and Research Consortium have launched a joint project - establishing of the Kiev School of Economics (KSE). The KSE is being set up through transformation and expansion of the EERC magistrate program, which has been already operating in the Kiev Mohyla University over 10 years. In the nearest decade, The Victor Pinchuk Foundation will inject above US$10 million into the KSE development.

The FSE profiles are: training of magisters and, in prospect, doctor of economics by the world standards, as well as carrying out of large-scale studies of economic processes. Victor Pinchuk will become an Honorable Chair of the KSE, Anders Aslund (International Economic Institute) and Regina Yan (Eurasia Foundation) will be co-chairs of the Board of Trustees. The EERC magistrate program manager Tom Coupe will be the KSE director.

According to the founders' plan, the project's strategic goal is a formation of the new generation of Ukrainian economists and practitioner-executives. In the nearest future, the school intends to reach the top positions in Central and Eastern Europe on the market of training of magisters and doctor of economics by the world standards and to become competitive on the world market of economic education. The KSE development strategy envisages a setting-up of an international discussion club for discussing vital problems and strategies of Ukrainian and world economy with participation of noted researchers, politicians and businessmen. The first experience of this kind was the public lectures of Dr.Francis Fukyama and Dr. Robert Angle.

"We have a very ambitious goal,-  Thomas Eymond-Laritaz, chairman of the board of the Victor Pinchuk Foundation, stated, - to set  the best economic school in Central and Eastern Europe, a sort of Ukrainian Harvard. With such modern international school we will solve the Ukraine's development problems - we will form, train and educate a new generation of economists and practitioner-executives who will transform and modernize the country.

"The EERC magistrate program is the best in Ukraine. It is qualitatively different from all the programs of this kind, - Anders Aslund pointed out. - Here the economics is trained by modern contemporary standards. That's what enables its graduators to become successful economists and practitioner-executives. The KSE project does not solely develop the magistrate program but transforms it as well into a genuine school of economics of the world pattern and move it to a brand new level.

"A 10-year funding program will enable the school to recruit on a long-term basis the faculty with the scientific degrees of international pattern both in Ukraine and in the West, - Tom Coupe emphasizes. - Moreover, the Foundation contribution will ensure a long-term stability needed for research development.

The KSE permanent staff will comprise Ukrainian faculties with PhD in Economics they got in Western Universities.  The KSE will engage them for a long-term period. Additionally, the KSE will engage visiting professors from the Universities of the USA, Italy, Israel, Western research institutes and companies.

Today, the number of students totals 100 persons.   The KSE plans to increase it up to 200, to develop the magistrate program for some specialties, to introduce a tuition stipend system.
