Lynette Yiadom-Boakye Wins Future Generation Art Prize

The Kiev-based Pinchuk Art Centre awarded British painter Lynette Yiadom-Boakye $100,000 as the winner of the Future Generation Art Prize at a ceremony last Friday.  Of 21 international finalists Yiadom-Boakye was chosen by a jury including such art-world luminaries as Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev, Massimiliano Gioni, and Hans Ulrich Obrist, among others.

Established by the Victor Pinchuk Foundation in December 2009, the award is granted to an artist under the age of 35 “to discover, recognize and give long-term support to a future generation of artists,” according to the prize’s website.

Yiadom-Boayke, who shows with Jack Shainman in New York, is known for her portraits of fictional black people. She has created a new series of works for the Pinchuk Art Centre, which will be on-view (along with work by all the finalists) at the center until January 6, 2013.

The National RECOVERY Network Gathers Global and Ukrainian Rehabilitation Experts at the RECOVER TOGETHER Conference

The annual international conference RECOVER TOGETHER: Overcoming the Consequences of Combat Trauma took place in Kyiv, bringing together over 60 speakers from Ukraine and special guests from the United States, Canada, Germany, Singapore, Latvia, and Israel. In Kyiv, a state-of-the-art rehabilitation center, RECOVERY, has opened at one of the key medical facilities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. This is the 14th center in the national network founded by Viktor and Olena Pinchuk to support Ukraine’s security and defense forces.

The Victor Pinchuk Foundation has covered the cost of repairing two artificial respiration devices, purchased 3 aspirators, 3 flow sensors and 50 pulse oximetry sensors for the intensive care unit of the perinatal centre of the Uzhhorod City Multidisciplinary Clinical Hospital, amounting to UAH 128 760.
