Challenges for philanthropy in Ukraine: The welfare/ policy dichotomy

Two events this year have significantly influenced the understanding of charity's role in Ukraine. The first was the Philanthropic Roundtable held by the Viktor Pinchuk Foundation at the World Economic Forum in Davos. It was the first philanthropy-related event to be hosted there by Ukraine and featured prominent speakers such as George Soros, Dr Tadataka Yamada, Global Health Program President at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Ukraine's First Lady, Kateryna Yushchenko, Chair of the Ukraine 3000 Foundation, and Robert Harrison, the Clinton Global Initiative's CEO. The second event was the conference 'Development of charity in Ukraine: from positive practices to favourable legislation' held by the Ukrainian Philanthropists Forum (UPF). This brought together a record number (over 80) of CEOs of active private and corporate foundations in Ukraine. They engaged in a heated debate on various topics. The Victor Pinchuk Foundation has provided assistance to the Odesa Cradles of Hope center

The Victor Pinchuk Foundation has covered the cost of repairing medical equipment and components for the neonatal intensive care unit of the Odesa Oblast Clinical Hospital's perinatal center. In particular, 5 reusable sensors for pulse oximeters, 5 temperature sensors, and 7 open resuscitation systems with automatic regulation were donated. The total cost of the sensors and repairs is UAH 168,121.

A RECOVERY Rehabilitation Center for Wounded Soldiers Opened in Ternopil

An innovative RECOVERY rehabilitation center for Ukrainian defenders who were injured in combat has opened in Ternopil. This marks the 17th center in the national RECOVERY network, founded by Victor and Olena Pinchuk to support Ukraine's Security and Defense Forces.

The Victor Pinchuk Foundation, as part of its technical support to the Cradles of Hope partner centres, has covered the cost of repairing the newborn incubator and purchased consumables to ensure the smooth operation of the medical equipment at the neonatal intensive care unit of the Vinnytsia Oblast Perinatal Centre at the Pirogov Regional Clinical Hospital. The total cost of the repairs and materials was UAH 181,215.00.
