Kwasniewski: “Ukraine Stays on Its Way to European Integration”

14-20101001-3789.jpgUkraine remains on its way to European integration, and YES will do its best to continue supporting this process in future. In his welcoming remarks for the first plenary session of the 7th Yalta Annual Meeting, Chairman of the Board of YES, the President of Poland (1995-2005), Aleksander Kwasniewski said: “We are taking small steps, but these steps are in the right direction. We are integrating Ukraine into the European Union. The objective has not been changed – we must think which proposals we should make and how to bring Ukraine toward the European Union”.

Aleksander Kwasniewski also made the point that he does not share the opinion according to which Ukraine has rejected the European prospects. “I strongly disagree with the idea that Ukraine is not interested in European integration any more. I heard the speeches of the President Yanukovych many times and I am sure that Ukraine is still on this way. And we will support such desire of Ukraine in every possible way”.

At the same time, the President Kwasniewski does not share either the views that the European Union is an artificial entity facing many problems today and unable to offer “anything of interest” to the world: “The European Union is not only a stable political environment, but it is our hope, it may be our hope”, he said.
